Just had a quick fly. It probably needs a little more thrust tweeked in as my Zephyr has a little dip on launch before climbing out, where this model needs to fly flat a little further with slower momentum build up. Elevator input when traveling at top speed is a bit more touchy as well in the real thing. Overall though besides a few minor tweeks I think they did a great job.

Many thanks to the modders

Mick

Same here Mick,
I changed the sound to a turbine (isn't that why we brought it.. lol), also mine is a 6 blade EDF and I played with the blade pitch.

A super job done by the lads considering they don't have one to fly. This is defiantly a unique bit of kit with nothing like it on RF..

Gold star and an elephant stamp..
Brad.

Don't mess around with hobbyking service too long if they are giving you the run around. If you used paypal, use their service and file a dispute immediatly. Give Hobbyking a date, say a week after your initial email, to set things right or you will open a paypal dispute and reclaim your money. Paypal has helped me in every dispute i've opened against fradulant sellers or businesses that don't want to hold up to their end. Don't feel bad for hobbyking. You work hard for your money and do not deserve a product like that.

Hey Brad

Try this variant and let me know what you think. I changed-

1. 6 blades
2. Gear Ratio = 2.0
3. Pitch = 6
4. Bat = 4S
5. AILE deflection = 28
6. Rudder deflection = 28
7. Ballast = 4.6

Engine sound to taste, as none of them are true Zephyr I dont think.

This combo ups the RPM's to where the Zephyr should be and i think it flies closer to the real thing on 3S. The launch I could not fix, so launch with a higher than true angle. Once its up to speed though its reasonable I think. Anyway please post good/bad

Mick

ps- Just updated variant with increased rudder and AILE deflection and decreased ballast to reduce agressive dip on launch

Another Zephyr Video

Ho Hum, Another video. We had Santa Ana winds blowing around this afternoon here in sunny Southern California. Crazy. The winds would be blowing 15-20kts in one direction, then a second later, reverse in the same strength. Was coming in for landing the first pass had 20kts right off the nose and floated too high. The second approach, the wind shifted and dropped to 0 resulting in loss of lift and a rather hard, abrupt landing. I've had my Z since June when they first came out and have well over 100 flights. Just hard to control with the squirrely winds.
Kev
P.S. My camara guy had a hard time keeping it in frame.

Thanks Mick,
Yeah, we we're kind of the Beta testers for the Zephyr for the first few months.
Laminating film, wing/belly skids, etc..all came from what You, Myself, and all the others posted here. That's what's make this and other threads such useful tools.
Still running Stock everything w/ 3300mAh 3s 35c Zippy compacts. Had to replace an aileron servo and that's it.
Here's a keychain cam. video of the same field, similar flight profile(back and forth, up and down.)
P.S. Check out 2:55

Anyone know if a hi-capacity lipo battery like this Zippy or Turnigy fit without any major modifications?

The weight of those packs would make your Zephyr nose heavy. What ever battery you can fit in wont change the fact that its an EDF, so its air time is going to be limited if flown continuously under power. There's plenty of battery options listed earlier on in this thread.

You don't really need the original canopy to fly it. Why don't you improvise and make one out of a plastic water bottle and hold it on with a rubber band?

I was testing out the Zephyr Realflight model again this arvo and recorded a short clip. I set it up with 10mph wind and a little turbulance. realflight does model this stuff quite well I think.
