R2 - Miss Supertest 24"

Wondering if anyone else has bought one of these ? http://www.r2hobbies.com/24-rc-ep-ep...cing-boat.html

Mine arrived today, not bad looking for the money. Trial fitout tonight, so I can test the weight balance.....

Hey Fleety you ol' dog.
Good to see you back on the boards again.
I trust all is well with you and yours?

I don't have one personally, but I've often been tempted to try one. They look pretty cool.

What motor & ESC are you thinking of.
We run a sort of 'unofficial class' of 24" Cambell Shovelnose with a Turnigy Typhoon 500 motor & a Turnigy 120A ESC. Plenty of speed & run time on 4s.
Same set up would work a treat in the R2 Hull.

Here's the "Green Goblin" on the fly.

Hi Paul,

Indeed , it has been a while !! All is well with my ever-expanding family. We've been in our new home for nearly 3 months now and baby #4 is only a matter of weeks away.

We now live in a new suburb, which has a new man-made lake. It has a few decks and viewing platforms, as well as accessibility to the waters' edge , for most of the perimeter.
I think it is about 300m long x around 60-80m across ?

As for the hull, I'm installing an old Feigao 6s , 120amp Turnigy speedy.
If it fits, I'll be using a 6600 mah/ 2S lipo. If not , I may use a saddle pack if it won't balance up properly.,,,,

The Green hydro of yours looks cool. I went for the red/flat black option.
I have some decals for it and a couple of ideas, which I'll keep quiet , until I decide which way to jump.
Nothing exotic , just want something different to the standard look.

Cheers ,

Fleety

Man that's a big family for this day & age. I'm glad they are all well.
The red & black scheme looks cool.

ESC arrived today , as well as a lipo for the old Riviera woody.
I'm going to need to make a clip in rescue boom for it, as I'm expecting a few blow overs in testing with this boat.
I dredged up a decent sized turn fin for this hull as well, so the list of neccessities is reducing rapidly. Ideally , I'd like to maiden this as yet, un-named hydro on the weekend ......

Should be good fun !

Aaaaah!!! The old woody.
Any time you want to come up to Brizzy again for a woody race, just let me know.
The last time was such fun.
As you know, pics & vids are essential.

Haha , sounds like fun.
The poor Equipage looks rather sad these days and is very, very stand off scale ! It has seen a fair bit of damage from various incidents etc , as well as the infamous quality issues.
I had considered planking the hydro initially, but decided against it.
It should be a fun little rocket and easy to transport , due to its small size overall.

No pics yet, but she had her maiden shakedown run this afternoon.
Didn't sink it, nor have a blowover, so that's a pass for me :-D

RTR weight is a little beefy at 1375 grams.
She's using :
Water cooled Feigao 6s
Turnigy 120 amp speedy
2S / 4200 45c lipo
OCTURA X430 prop
STD size servo
Straight drive shaft and rudder, as supplied.

I'd say I'm seeing somewhere only around the 25-30 mph mark at most.
It is dipping the right sponson as it goes along ...... Definitely shooting spray and it doesn't have a turn fin either.
She static balances ok, sits level at rest.
I'm thinking it is a sponson profile issue. Once it is dry, I'll have a look, run a straight edge around it.
I'm certainly no FE boat expert. Any ideas lads??
I'm thinking it will need some ride pads, the bottom of the sponsons are quite large....

Good to hear from you again ol' mate.Ride pads are probably a good idea to square up the edges. But they would only need to be 1/2- 2/3 the width of the sponsons.

The digging in of the sponsons could mean that the angle of the drive line is lifting the back & pushing the nose in. Try moving the weight back a bit.

Cheers.
Paul.

Thanks Paul,

That's just the info I needed. I thought the ride pads needed to be narrower, but not exactly how much!
I did shift the lipo back, it only seems to drag the right sponson, even bounces a little on that side.
Sadly no video, I was running solo with it... I'd like to have captured it to review myself. Going to see if I still have any light ply sheet around, or buy some this weekend.

P.S., the C.G. was around 40mm behind the sponsons

Try moving it back a bit further.
Possible reason for the right sponson digging is the prop torque is twisting the boat that way.
What kv is that motor you are running?

Very high, around 5500 kV IIRC.
I was wondering whether it was torque roll, but discounted it because the same thing occurs, no matter the throttle setting??
