The American Enterprise is one of the DUMAS models that I thoroughly enjoyed in both building and running out of all the DUMAS line up. I built the kit with the supplied materials and then fiber glassed all the seams and then resin coated (this was in my Polyester resin days of building), the entire hull both inside and out.

This is one of the largest of the DUMAS models and a subject which offers a great deal of opportunity for customizing for various real life rolls. The original American Enterprise as depicted by DUMAS, was the prototype, built by HALTER Marine as an offshore crew boat used in the Gulf for crew changes on the oil rigs. Since the crews are paid from the time they leave the dock to when they return to the dock, the boats had to be fast and able to run in heavy seas.

Both the real boats and the model were originally setup with jet drives, although the DUMAS model was setup for the use of one of the old (now long gone) MRC jet drives, with reversing bucket. This can be noted by the shape of the hull frame work and bottom design on the model only. The real boat was equipped with three jet drives.
When I build the model (over twenty six years ago) I opted for the standard under hull, propeller and rudder setups in twin drive configuration. The boat runs very well and can spin on a dime for maneuvering, with its twin screw drive system.

This is one of the nicer kits manufactured by DUMAS both in design and materials included in the kit. If you are a builder and enjoy the build as much or more than the running, this is the model for you. At 52 in length make sure you have the work space to build the model.
