Yeah 1:1 thrust to weight ration would be nice, but I have a sneaking suspicion that I'm going to loose quite a lot of thrust (static) due to the amount of ducting I have. I expect performance will improve once its flying... it still seems a long way off.

I'm hoping to have all of the parts cast for the prototype today

Stick at it with SolidWorks, it'll be a great investment of your time, especial with all of those cool machines you've got access to.

My advice would be to work through the getting started tutorials in the pics below. I've green ticked the ones that are going to be the most beneficial for your applications.

If you need any help just drop me a line.

Great progress there Steve!

I've been doing more home reno's this end, which is taking up the weekends, as the place was starting to look pretty bad for a family home.

Latest weights

I've just plugged all the weights back into SolidWorks and we're are looking at a AUW of 166.2 grams (5.86 oz). That's configured with a Hyperion 3 cell, 450 mAh, 25C LiPo

The COG is bang on the money with plenty of wiggle room.

Really good engineering

I guess Birmingham is still the center of small manufacturing excellence
