Ailerons on a AERO CRUISER ? Why not!

Okay, Here's the deal. I am going to add ailerons on my Aero Cruiser...

I already cut out the trailing edge of the wing, mounted the servo in place and have
devised a scheme to manage the new control surfaces. It's been really easy so far, I
can't imagine it's going to take much more time to finish.

I plan on eliminating the rudder control and hope the ailerons meet their design intent
on her maiden flight.

I bought some aileron balsa stock and have it cut to size. I just need to glue the
hinges in place and wait for a calm day.

I wonder if it's going to be worth it!

Looks like you are going to have a lot of aileron there so take it easy on the throws at first. If you plan to ROG I would leave the Rudder in. Can't really tell the way the wing lays but with the ailerons you shouldn't have as much dihederal as the rudder only wing. But if it's not to bad you may be OK

The dihedral is pretty much set on this plane by the wing struts and plastic joiner in
the center of the wing. If I had to guess, the wing dihedral is about 10 - 15
degrees.... I was actually debating whether or not to reduce the aileron size, but I
chose to go easy on the throws like you suggested.

The ailerons are on....

Well, the ailerons are on and it looks like it might fly!

I'm hoping the winds die down a bit tonight...If they do, The maiden flight of my "Aero Cruiser Plus" will take place!

I'll try to take a picture and upload it before she fly's (Just incase my Aero Cruiser Plus turns into an Aero Cruiser Minus!).

yea,

It is the small lear jet from walmart! 24in WS and glides like a chanp! I have (2) of them. I like what you have done with the nacels on the wings, how did you make them? Looks sweet! What motor and prop? i was thinking about doing something sim. but useing the KP-44's well, now that i look at it closer, i see that it isn't the small lear. I have no idea what it is but i would like to see it!

Change in plans

Well the ailerons didn't work out so well. I tried to shorten them up to see if that would help. It did help a bit but she still want to fly straight. It must be due to the inherent stability from the wing design.

So I went on to plan 2. I converted my ailerons into flaps. They really worked out great! I give it full flaps, put the nose down and she slows down to a crawl. (a real slow flyer).

I got her up really high then cut the power and gave it full flaps then trimmed the nose down and I thought it was never going to come down!

Needless to say, I wish I had a computer radio, using the rudder control for the flaps is somewhat tricky.

Last one.

This picture shows full up flaps aka "spoilers" (thanks stallspeed!). I apply full up just after touch down to keep the down force high. This reduces the chance of a bouncy landing.

It appears to be a Lifelike AA glider, with MP Jet gearboxes. Although the motors aren't visible, I'd guess 280's? Maybe even 280BBs?

Very close! You got the lifelike AA glider part right. The gearboxes are Horst 280 Gearbox's with stock 280's.

That configuration didn't work out real well. I ended up using mabuchi 370's with zagi props.

I started a new thread on the glider Here:
