Build Log
B1b bomber (4x70mm)

This is my first thread in a long time and I decided to put it in the giant forum.

Seven years back I designed and built a 51mm powered stand off scale B1b that flew pretty good but lacked retracts. Took seven years to re-visit the plane but it's back and a 50% larger Bone. This will be my first fiberglass build and will used the plug / packing tape method.

Specs: Span 86"
Power 4X70mm fans with custom wound motors.
Battery 6s 4000 x 2

Some progress has already been made but I will back track to show progress.

Cheers -- Stacker

Thanks Katniss,

This will be a challenge for my first fiberglass build. Good thing I picked a easy subject ;-)

Power system is all built up and tested. I went with 10 blade fans as I'd tested these in a modified Dynam ME262 with good results. 262 flew well on 4s using cheap 2300kv outrunners at around 600 watts each and plane weight around 6 pounds. B1 power will be around 750-800 watts per fan on 6s.

Take care -- Stacker

Great to see you on the threads again, Stack. If I could impose, please put a lot of pics of the fuse/glass process up. I want to try that on an upcoming build. You going to swing the wings?

Watching with interest,
Jeff

Jeff,

Been a long time since I did a build thread. I got burned out on foam and have been thinking of switching to glass on larger builds. I'll post catch up pictures and show how I'm trying to do it.

Will swing the wings for sure.

Here is a picture of nacelle plug. I decided to try the nacelle plug first before attacking the fuse with glass. Plug is made up of tree sections of 2" pink foam for top and bottom. Sections are rough cut, glued back together and then contoured to shape. After rough shaping I apply Spackle and final sand. Important to keep ref. center lines on plug as they will be used to mark the onto the glass.

Thanks guys,

Been away from scratch builds for some. I've just been lurking watching Morgan's builds. I was up in the air on the B1, bounced back and forth between it or a similar sized B-58. I actually started the B-58 and had the nacelle plug ready and the landing gear built up before switching to the B1.

CN,

Drop me a PM if you come into town. Sorry, no flying field anymore in Salt Lake.

Take care -- Stacker

Fuse plug is about ready in this shot. Matches photoduggery pretty close.

I'll lay up the nacelles first for practice, then the fuse.
