Dualsky coaxial motor

Seems like Dualsky is coming with some new motors suitable for F3P, including a coaxial version: http://dualsky.com/motor/typhoon.shtml

Lots of interesting stuff on the data sheet.
1. Low KV motors
2. PT props going to sell lefthand props for coax setups
3. the only gearing on the coax looks to drive rear prop at higher RPM.
4. Since no gearing for front prop maybe no 11 inch props.

Awesome to have DualSky building F3P equipment!!!!
Hurrah for competition!!

Compared to the Dualsky RTR motors, the ESC is not part of the mount. Also, the 18g weight seems relatively heavy (compared to other approaches) unless the props are included in the weight. I also noticed the 9" prop for test purposes. At that low a kv, maybe it can swing bigger props than 9".

Interesting concept, but if they had driven the little intermediate pulley/gear then they could have used a lighter smaller motor and/or spun a bigger prop.

As it is gear ration between the two props could be close to 1:1.
It depends on the gear ratio and the pulley ratio, which will be multiplied to get the final ratio. The two look pretty close (one geared up, the other down)

I love the design. I think it could be made lighter.

Pat, i think you are right the pully ratio looks to be almost the inverse of the gear ratio. They are giving us counter-rotating props but no gear effect. The coax unit must be using the bigger of the two motors which may explain the weight.

I sent an email to 2DogRC expressing some concern with the gearing ratios as well as a question about how much prop diameter could the motor handle. The tests referenced in the ad only used 8 and 9" props.

Mark (2DogRC) forwarded the questions to Dualsky. Will let everyone know what the response is when I get it.

No response from Dualsky or 2DogRC yet.

Don

Quick update from 2DogRC. Apparently, no testing was done with props larger than 9", whether the Dualsky can handle larger props is still a question. 2DogRC said they would be getting the Dualsky contra system in March.
