Question
Pivot Position on an all moving Tail / Elevator

Hopefully someone can help.

Iím designing / building a 30mm EDF Hawker Hunter over on the micro jets forum.

Could someone tell me the correct way for working out the pivot position for an all moving tail plane?

I assumed that it would be on the COG of the elevator as calculated on the drawing below, but you know what they say about assuming Ö

Thanks, Steve

A little hard to follow the drawing but it looks like you are identifying the mac there? I would put the pivot at 30% back along the mac then at least partially static balance the surface with a slug of lead in the nose. Although, at this size you can skip the static balancing I suppose .

I think you will find that it had elevators on a movable stabilizer. I want to go with a flying stabilizer as it going to easier to setup. I found this and it goes into detail on how the stabilizer functions on the full size hunter - LINK
