I was told to go with the edge since it has extra cooling.
what prop size your using?
85 amp ZTW Gecko....they don't get hot or randomly burst into flames. They are cheaper, and they work great with motrolfly 3615s.

I put some spendy digital 7245s on a brand x plane I recently purchased. They were easy to set up and get the throws I wanted. They are strong with no blow back. Different airframe though...bigger and 1800 watts of blow back potential. Biggest reason I went with them is they were recommended by brand x. I sure don't see a need for them on this airframe though. The 85mg work wonderful on this plane...not expensive...tumbles. ..blenders or precise. I don't have any higher expectations for the planes ability. I am sure there are digital equivalents. ..for a couple more bucks why not. Still. ..why?

I've used the HS-85's and 5085's in various 51's I've had. I think I've owned 5 51" Slicks over the years. Two have had 5085's. There is a difference. On those violent tumbles I like to do (like in the video I lined a page ortwo back) those were with the 5085's. They are noticeably more violent with them. I think the slightly faster servo and slightly more torque account for it. If I remember right the 5085's aren't that much more either.
Now on those 7245's like proving gravity mentioned, those things are awesome and worlds better than the 5245's or 225's they replace. But they are also about 2x as much as them! The 5085's are only about 5-10 more than the 85's I think.

+1
I use them on most of my planes and I picked the the program card for the ESC,made setting the servos to run off 6 volts painless

I went with the 85 analog version lots of flights well over a year and no problems yet.

If anybody needs a set of landing gear for a 51" Slick let me know. I have a set that I don't much need since I killed my last 51. They are from an ExtremeFlight 60" Edge, and dremeled/drilled to fit a 51" Slick. Much stronger than the stock gear. These have 5 flights and a crash on them. The crash wasn't on the gear and didn't hurt them any.
New the EF gear is 25 + 6 shipping.
This set can be had for $20 shipped to you.

PG, Congrats on the maiden! What a plane!! spinner looks a little big though....

Since the 51's are on sale would you think there is a newer version in the works or what?? Ooops, not on sale anymore... at least my timing was right!

Picked up a red 51 to have as a spare. Flew my orange one yesterday now that my capabilities and consistencies are better. (50 consecutive flights on a 48" Edge)

Really liking the Slick. Floaty like the Edge but maniacal in tumbles.

Had a blast taking off and landing on a nice flat football field! Nothing like the hay field (read mine field) I've been flying from! What a fantastic plane!

Jeff

Good catch on the spinner being big. (It is!)No trimming and the xoar slips right in. I will change it eventually though.
