Mounting RFFS-100 coils?

How are people mounting their RFFS-100 actuator coils?
Do you use CA to permanently mount them? I'm a little
hesitant to make them permanent given my crash record.
Would hot glue work? Then I could peel it off if the plane
is totaled and move them to a new airframe.

I CA'd mine on. But, I had the same thoughts, so I tried to use a minimal amount of CA. My thought was that I might be able to use debonder to soak them loose. But, hopefuly this doesn't affect the glue used on the actuators themselve. Good question. Maybe experienced actuator users will tell us what they do.

Phil? Ralph? Graham? Mark?

I allways model with foam so there easy to break off whatever glue you use, but if you are going to glue them to balsa I have heard ambroid is good as it may be removed with thinners. Water soluable glues like pva might be another alternative.

Wind your own, it's easy and cheap. Then you can just forget about the old coils. After much talking with fill I have refined a winding method that uses no soap/white glue, and no soaking to get them apart. Beautiful, finished coils in under an hour, most of which is drying time for the epoxy. The trick may be to find the wire, 41-44 awg. If there is interest, I will post the method. Just let me know.

yes, of course there is interest. do tell!

I wrapped my coils in a thin strip of fiber-reinforced 3M tape, then glued the tape to the surface. I was worried about the insulation flaking off if I needed to remove them... now, it's just tape sticking to them. it weems to work fine this way.

Dow,

How about posting, and then writing up a short technique article for the Ezone. Remember Dave Lilley's exorting us to do this so the information becomes permanent. Seems to me this is something that should become permanent. Plus, you'll go down in the history of Micro and be famous forever.

Maybe you and Phil can co-author it. I got the publishing guidelines from Dave and it's pretty basic. Send a Ms Word file and any photos. He does the rest. You can write it in HTML if you want, but that's not required.

Coil Winding

Dow
Please share your coil winding method with us.I was able to buy a few ozs of #41 and #44 wire from a email friend;so am ready to try a different method of winding coils as I have not yet mastered the ART of winding coils. So have to buy from DU ,Cloud9 or Aeronutz in England until I can DIY. This from a retired electronics aerospace engineer.
THanks Chuck

Hot topic, huh? I ran it past Phil last week, so it is basically typed up. Just needs a little fine tuning to clear a few details up. Will post it on a new thread, today if I can.

I used a hot glue gun. The glue will peel right off when needed.

and we go through the "we've been through this before, check the threads" remarks before. Let's not alienate the newer folks here. I'm sure the question "What's the best trainer" has been asked many times over however each time it elicits dynamic new responses and no one complains. Lets learn not burn.
