Mats IYF 44 Build

Going with the IYF as I want something thats aerobatic, and can slow down for some good close in flying at the park.

Plus its my first wing so need a nice slow one to learn with

No fixed power plant/battery combo, she will have big bays to move stuff around as it will have several diferent setups as I use this as a bit of a KIWIRC demo/try things out wing.

Tonite have cut the spar slots, trimmed The main spar to size and attacked the motor mount with a dremel. I cut a slot on the end of the square tube so that it slots over the main spar. There is no way this puppy will move out of alignment.

Sorry the photos are a bit blurry

Thanks guys, will update here as things progress

Yea Paul, sort of, used the dremel and slotted it, so I could glue the wing and spar, then filled the hole with PU and slid the mount in. Seems to be locked in real nice :-)

I had Adam do my 36 inch lightning twin with the mounts that way.. tied to the spar so the motors would be tied to a more ridge frame...

Hey, yep locking the mount into the carbon works a treat, I have 13 flights on the IYF44 lite build so far, 1/2 of them with the Microdan 2535 Custom wind.

next time to lock it even more, may drill a 6mm hole nearer the motor end of the mount, and put a 75mm (3 inch) long spar in , so theres two solid mounting points

I see I never finished this thread off

Heres a completed photo, color scheme has changed (weak eyes) and it is currently Fluro Orange and white on top, and fluro green and white on bottom.

Battery capacity is between 2250 mah to 2350 mah 3S ( I run a combo of batts, two batts side by side in the bay) some combinations put my CG on the recomended point, some combos move it back 10mm. with it back it wags its tail a bit in a cross wing, but requires about 2mm less reflex, so is faster.

Three motor combos I use on this. Emax 2805 1600kv, it flies but not enuff punch. Emax 2812 1535 kv with APC 7 by 5 prop - flies nice, long flight time, Microdan "Custom" 2535 kv on a 6 by 4 e prop - my prefered motor, as is lighter than the emax, and can be throttled back for "In Yo Face" flying, or throttled up for a bit of speed :-) but you cant beat the Emax for value for money.

Will try and get some vid :-) tks for the complement.
The MD motor makes this thing move, maybe a bit to fast , but hey another flight on it today, that 14 so far. still at a cross roads as to my next wing (TL50 powered, TL50Slice powered, ltg36.......)

Right, with about 18 flights on her now (11 in the last week !) and with the elevon hinges and wing tips needing attention, I decided to do a small mod......

I hope it works.

Jacko very kindly donated a set of tips from his Dlite40 (he has balsa ones for it) so I cut and sliced these in. I also used some offcuts from the main spars on the wing tips to protect the elevons.

Note the color scheme, its the only way my tired eyes can see it, the underside is Fluro Green !

Motor is swapped back to the emax 2812 on a 7 by 5 apc pro (then back to the MD, damn speed calling me)

Ok, back from field - flight test - no better/no worse - the looks I like

How about a 3/4 view so we can see how it looks with the inboard winglets

sweet as !

Now have 9 flights on her in this config.

With the outboard wing tips, after 4 flights the EPP would rip where the winglets were hotglued

Set up like this, no more probs, and the motor/prop is nicely tucked awy

Just wish I had RITEWEAVED this one, as I learnt to fly wings, she has taken some abuse, and looks tatty.
