I did quite a bit of playing with the tail of the 450 in the weekend. I found that deceleration against torque needed to be almost twice that of with torque, to get an even stop. My final tail changes from stock model 4 were:

Note: make sure you set the tail to 8 degrees against torque or setup the tail in rate mode. This makes a big difference to CW stop.

See below for the v3.50 and up settings

#### 450 Sport ####
Gain: 100 (Tx 30)

P: 70
I: 50
D: 15

Decel L with torque: 25 (nose left)
Decel R against torque: 70 (nose right)

RC Deadband: 30

Torque compensate: -8 (the gyro is upside down on the gyro tray)

Tail servo: Micro KST DS115MG 1520us 333Hz (7mm ball position)

#### 450 Pro ####
Gain: 100 (Tx 28)

P: 70
I: 50
D: 25

Decel L with torque: 30 (nose left CCW)
Decel R against torque: 65 (nose right CW)

RC Deadband: 30

Torque compensate: 8 (the gyro is on the anti rotate bracket)

Tail servo: Mini DS520 1520us 333Hz (7.5mm ball position)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
V3.50 settings

#### 250 DFC ####
Gain: 100 (Tx 30)

P: 70
I: 50
D: 15

Decel L with torque: 40 (nose left CCW)
Decel R against torque: 40 (nose right CW)

RC Deadband: 30

Torque compensate: 8 (the gyro is upside down on the gyro tray)

Tail servo: MKS DS95i (7mm ball position)

#### 450 DFC Sport ####
Gain: 100 (Tx 30)

P: 90
I: 50
D: 25

Decel L with torque: 50 (nose left CCW)
Decel R against torque: 60 (nose right CW)

RC Deadband: 30

Torque compensate: -8 (the gyro is upside down on the gyro tray)

Tail servo: Micro KST DS115MG 1520us 333Hz (7mm ball position)

thanks for posting that, bf. I too found that Decel had to be very different between CW piro stops and CCW on both my the 450 and Protos 500. However I've got mine set the other way around:

Protos 500
servo MKS DS760, ball at 13.5mm (BEC 5.8V)
PID: 75/40/23
Yaw Total Gain: 80 (DX6i 60)
Decel against torque: 19 (nose right, CW piro)
Decel with torque: 25 (nose left, CCW piro)

450 Black Angel
servo MKS DS9670, ball at 10mm (BEC at 5V)
PID: 85/50/10
Yaw Total Gain: 100 (DX6i 68)
Decel against torque: 22 (nose right, CW piro)
Decel with torque: 27 (nose left, CCW piro)

That's interesting. Tail stop with the tail going left (nose right/CW) was much softer on my 450 Sport with both decels the same.

I'm wondering if it could be a mechanical setup issue on my 450. Before I start trying this, what are others finding with there 450 tail.

1/ Tail left or tail right has the best stop?
2/ Did you set center slider or for rate mode tail hold?

The following applies for both my helis:
1/ Tail right (nose left piro) has the best stop. As in crisp, stop-dead, brick wall kind of stop. I had a little bounce on CW piros, which I fixed by dropping the decel on that side and fiddling with the PID. Even now that the bounce is fixed, CW piro stops are softer than CCW, but at least it stops where I put it with no bounce. Any faster decel and the bounce comes back.

2/ I always do a rate-mode tail hold setup, which works out pretty centered on both the 450 and Protos (that's what good tail design will do for ya)

Thanks. That now makes more sense. My stop was the same and I managed to get the crisp stop in both directions by increasing the CW decel significantly.

FYI, I also think the L/R decel changes when you mount the gyro upside down. For me decel R was nose right/tail left and is the one set to 65.

I've also corrected my above post as decel L was set to 30 (not 35).

It's off topic, but nope, you can go as close as you want in an interference free environment. It's not flooding itself here, nor is it able to. Bear in mind that this is not using 2,4Ghz and that every interference will translate to issues.

It was basically just an example of what interference can do to a 35mhz or 72mhz system.

Can the old ZYX 3-axis FL unit also be upgraded to that new 3.0 version?
