I put 81's on ailerons and the MG equivlent (82 i believe) on the elevator. 65 HB on the rudder. The only reason I used these is I happened to have them. I almost put 65HB's on the ailerons and I'm sure they would have been fine.

I know we've covered this topic before but I'm still trying to figure out if I need the spacers on the motor mount. At this point I have not used any spacers and the penguin flies good, but we RCGroupers are never satisfied lol!

Look forward to hearing back!

Cheers,

Thanks in advance!
Primer Tamiya White Primer, with Faskolor paint. I used the Faskolor paint on an Easystar2 (EPO) without primer and it is wearing pretty good I have about 20 flights on it. I believe the primer may make the paint even more durable not sure if it is worth the additional step and cost. (Tamiya primer is expensive)

Thanks Tom!

I also build models so I have tamiya primer on the shelf. I'm willing to bet that you're right - the primer gives the paint something to bite into.

Thanks a ton!

Got my Penguin in the mail today - looking forward to flying it as soon as I can get it built and the weather clears. I have a GoPro 3 on order and plan to start flying it LOS, then upgrade to FPV later. Great thread!

Prop for 2815 on 4s

This is probably a stupid question but what prop do I need if running the 2815 motor on 4s. The Finwing website says APC9060 but NOT EP 9060. The only APC pusher prop that I find is APC 9060EP, is this the same EP 9060 they say not to use? Will this prop work or not?
Thanks

ep9060 is a slow flyer prop

you can use either the apc 9x6 or the pusher version apc 9x6p one just rotates in the opposite direction.

the regular apc 9x6 is easier to come by though.

Cheers,
hope this explains it ok..

the firewall has 2 sets of mounting holes, an inner and an outer, depending on the set it depends on which spacers you use, the inner gets the smaller and the outer gets the bigger, if you use the bigger on the inside it throws off the geometry.

so with the proper spacer the motor should end up pointing straight back (horizontal) with out any up or down tilt. is this correct?

I am trying to decide if I want to go 4s or 3s on my setup. I have only flown it with 3s on the APC 9x6E prop and it lacked power here at 7300 ft. Typically I up the pitch or diameter or both to compensate for the thinner air. I bench tested 4S with the 9x6 prop and I was at 38 amps static at ~90% throttle on a 3.9v per cell charge. The best I ever got on my 3S bench tests was 29-30 amps WOT. I am using the NTM 3530 1400kv motor with 40 amp ESC from HobbyKing. I am concerned the KV is a little high for this prop.

I ordered the APC 9x7.5E and 9x9E props to bench test on 3s. I also started using a voltage regulator (step up/down) for my video system so I can use whatever battery I want and not have to worry about it.

In an effort to be 100% in compliance with regulations I ordered a vinal sticker from buildasign.com with my contact information, AMA, and HAM. Cost me 3.26 shipped. I guess I could have done it myself but it would not have been as neet looking.
