I have never messed with Microchips MCU's. I have one but still have yet to take it outta da package. Use atmega there is much more support and documentation on those.

It's easy hardware to do and just give yourself an interrupt. You can convert the analog to digital by letting a little hardware watch the slope and zero-crossing for you, with a timer to give you advance.

Better yet, use a uC with an internal comparator. The 12F1840 has a nice one.

Then you can set the voltage you want AND get an interrupt.
