So on a whim, I decided to pick up a pair of scratch-built Force RC combat helis from Ebay. You know, these things:

it's pretty quiet and hasn't been updated since March last year.


Anyway, the reason I'm posting about these here is that they're basically MCX2s but the custom transmitter that comes with them lets you set up a few really interesting features in a special "program" mode that you can put both it and the heli into. In addition to programming the "team color" and the output of the IR "gun", you can also put the heli into an "easy fly" mode which turns it into a mode 2 3-channel! I found this to be really, really cool because now my son, who is transitioning from the Syma S107G family doesn't have to worry about the aileron channel and can just worry about learning to fly with the rudder on the left stick. Neat!!! Now, I just need to get him a few more hours of training and I can get him to take on his old man in an "laser tag" style dogfight.

So, yeah, if you find a complete one on EBay (have to get the TX for it to get it to work) then it becomes a really great trainer for the kids. He's much more excited to fly a "gunship" that makes cool shooting noises than the boring old MCX now. LOL

Would it be possible to bind one to a DX6i or above? Im thinking that 5th channel could come in handy

Do you think $50 for a gently used, RTF version of the MCX2 is a good deal? Comes with everything and is still in the original box.

^ thats a good deal, but gently used could mean heavily thrashed in the world of 2nd hand traders

Why dont you mechanically trim it so you get the same effect without adding weight?

There's a 1g weight in the nose of my mcx2 AND it's mechanically trimmed... way faster than trimming alone once it gets moving helps outdoors

I'd appreciate some suggestions for D/R and Expo settings for this bird. I'm using a Dx6i.
