I bit the hook ...(R2 Passer)

...after talking to OC Flyer and the other guys @ kite hill last Saturday, I decided that is too risky (yes, I am a coward) to launch my prized warm-hot-cold liners on the cliff, so I went and ordered a red (Ferrari red ; ) R2Hobbies Passer from Aloft Hobbies, it will be here tomorrow, and will be airworthy by Friday ~ 3 pm.
Now the questions:
- What size Battery you guys are using?
- CG?
- Throws? How much Expo (if really needed)?

Let me know, let me know, I want to maiden it next Sat at the hill ...(if wife agrees, of course )

I used a 2000mAH 4xAA pack from cheapbatterypacks.com. I used no expo.

The manual from R2 said 66mm CG, but I balanced mine on the carbon joiner.

The plane is very graceful. If you can program in a TON more rudder than elevator you will find the v-tail more effective.

aarrrrrhhhhh no lipo, not in a slopie unless your flying from a totally grass or combustible free slope site. 900mah NiMh AAA is all you need no esc absolutely not required throws as much as you can get on Ailerons ,do your self a favour and fit 2 servo's in the fuse so you have ruddervator as well, mix these with the aileron at 100% movement ,elevator 1/4" up an down is plenty. CG right on or just in front of the carbon joiner (they are very forgiving CG wise) .Enjoy

combustible free slope site
...well, this is CA, so I cannot guarantee there is no petroleum underground
All I fly is lipo, lipo and more lipo, but, ok, I will build a 6V AA pack, have everything needed here @ work ... it will save me the BEC for "another" plane (this is plane # 40 or so )
Thanks

Yep, not started by me ... that I remember ...
OK,
AAA to make it light, the flying site is pretty small, I would dare to say "cute" , little slope with NICE lift, you can go all the way down to pickup your glider, as long as you don't land on the traffic underneath (hmmm..)
I am not going to launch this thing on San Pedro or Torrey Pines, just small, nice, easy slopes, maybe later ...

Ok for your Passer you should use at least a 4 cell 2700amh no lipo you need wieght. . You need weight in the nose. Its designed for a motor so you ll even have to add more weight to get CG right !!!! Mix what ever you think looks right Elevator and rudder, then fly it and see how it goes !! They are the BEST plane for Kite Hill I know I have been flying one for almost 3 yrs there !!!! Dont worry about adding weight just makes it penerate better !!! Enjoy it fly it and watch all the other Passers come out , there must be 12 of them up there !!!! Now

I had 2 and stupidly sold 1 , they where only $76AU when I bought them in 2007 but they soon increased in value ,BTW the were not specifically designed for power they were in the glider version when they came out and then the passer X was produced either way it was my go to light air slermal machine for years still have one hanging in the work shop ,needs work on the trailing edge .

Yes the older ones had a weak trailing edge. I had to always reinforce them, newer ones had it a lot thicker !!! They really fly better with a up right stab and rudder. Im on my 5 th one now and have my next one on the way !!!!
