Well... it could have been the pilot itself. I tested the gas flow with the old valve and gas was coming thru. I connected the original valve to the igniter/tray; its all one piece, and the peso igniter wouldn't spark when I clicked the button on the vlave. When I got the new valve I connected it to the original igniter/tray..a.the igniter still did not spark..... so that's when I got the new tray....
I connected the old valve to the new tray and it sparked and gas was coming thru but by then I had installed the new valve, so then....I installed the new tray.... btw... on the new all-in one tray... its sealed, you can no longer do the old "fireplace match" through the hole... all they give you now is a little glass window..anyway we got hot water back... one problem down...10 to go
