What thickness acetate for the Phase 3 F-16? What adhesive works best. Thanks in advance for these tips.

I use either .005" or .007" and use clear tape to stick together.

Here is what I buy:

Here is an example of how I make a tube:

Is the Phase 3 F-16 a 70mm or 64mm fan? I'm getting one and will be buying one of your combos to power it.

Both actually will fit. I used a 64mm in my build but 70 fits as well

like a brand new bird

Don, wanted to let you know that I just got back from NEAT 2015 with my Phase 3 with your newly installed "D" setup. Once I got the ESC issue worked out and threw a Pulse 2250 45C 4s battery up front, I was able to pull 980 Watts at 62 Amps from your balanced set up.

I rebuilt a thrust tube to 80% FSA again and had plenty (over 1 hp) of thrust to hand launch at that FSA and let me tell you, she's wayyyyy faster than before on the "B" set up.

Thankfully NEAT is a huge venue and my Phase 3 made quick work of covering the real estate there. Once again, many folks were impressed with its speed and came up to me to ask "who makes that model". Of course I ALWAYS tell them its not on stock power. It's a DON'S !!!!!

let me repeat 980 WATTS !!!!! of smooth sounding balanced power !

Just awesome Don !

Glad it flew well for you! I always wanted to try that setup in the EF-16 should be 120 mph pretty easy I would think. Thanks for posting!

Here are the thrust tube templates I used in my original build for those who have asked

It is in two pieces and has to be taped together. This is sized for 5 or 6 blade 64mm fans.

Just before the weather here in Upsate NY finally went to hell, we flew the Phase 3 and used time over distance measures to calculate 132 mph in dead calm winds.

So yeah, Im very happy !!

Awesome! I just got a kit a few days ago. Did you stiffer up the tail area with carbon ?

I did not use carbon but instead used 1/16th ply. I used this http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showp...unt=30It's very rigid at this point. What is critical I found was making sure the tailerons were very tight , secure, and statically balanced.

On one downwind full throttle pass at NEAT this year I had an extreme right taileron flutter that nearly cost me this airplane.

Turns out the "bearing" in the tail section that the end of the taileron shaft fits into had become loose in the foam. I had used those brass inserts that go inside the mounting grommets of standard size servos as "bearings" for the taileron shafts. Once I re-epoxied it, the taileron was very rigid and no more flutter.

If you're going to try to get any speed out of the Phase 3 I recommend statically balancing the tailerons and putting some sort of bearing in the tail cone area for the shaft to sit into. Oh and Metal Gear servos are a given.
