Hey guys,

One of my buddies gave me a load of nitro stuff and i was looking through it and found these two .049/.051 engines. One of my other friends told me that they are kinda rare.

I just wanted to see if anyone could identify these? My friend said they could be original or remakes...

Alright, so after more research i'm quite sure these are Cox .051 Tee Dee engines. Is this correct?

The red plastic on the motor and the red pastic tank sure looks like a TD .051 to me.

To be sure, the .051 has a groove cut into the piston skirt. Visible at or near TDC.

Depends on the condition of the red carb body. If it is cracked where the venturi screws into then it will have to be replaced. New red plastic ones are available from MECOA and replacement red aluminum ones are available from Cox International. If the glow heads work is a + and they are of the high compression version. They should have knurling on the top of the glow head.

The complete engine with the prop and plastic tank mount is from $35 to $45 depending on the overall condition of the engine and if the glow head works.

The engine missing the glow head is from $20 to $30 depending on the overall condition of the engine.

Also the Cox tank mount is worth about $10 alone if its not cracked or leaking.

Ok so the complete engine is the high compression version and the red carb body is completely in tact.

The other incomplete engine is cracked where the venturi screws in.

Also, the Cox tank mount is completely fine and not cracked or leaking.

I don't think any of the Cox stuff is rare if made from the mid 1960's and up.. There were a lot of them made. There is a demand for them still though. Nostalgia I guess. A lot of fields require a muffler, and they don't really accomodate that well. Electrics have kind of taken over the .15 and under size, so the smaller stuff is readily available at swap meets, and quite cheap sometimes. Some people refuse to give in to the electrics and still use the nitro stuff.(Myself included)

You guys are going to cause me to find my old COX engine stash! I know I have a bunch of them, all vintage, many nib, and include a few pee wee .010's, lots of .020s and a plethora of .049's and .051s.
