4 tones is a motor anomaly. AXI motors are kinda difficult to run with any controller other than a Jetti but with the right settings the Castle controllers usually do very well.
I run quiet a few AXI motors & 8khz PWM & Low Timing range has always been the ticket.

I don't know what your settings are but try that & see what you get plus things change a little with a load so stick a prop on there as well to make sure the setting are going to be sufficient.

Low Timing is the way to go.

PWM of 8 or 12 should be about the same.

I found on some versions of firmware anything above 8 would cause an out of phase (squealing noise) - but some versions not. 8's always been safe.
Timing on Castle controllers can be a little misleading if the info box for the setting inst looked at. The setting refers to a dynamic range - not actual degrees, & since AXI motors are high timed motors we want to use a very low dynamic expansion range thus the Low setting on timing.
Just a little fyi in case you wonder why we recommend low timing setting when AXI recommends 22 - 24 deg. of timing if I remember correct.

Awesome. I took the prop off to diagnose and keep my fingers I have a squeal with it on at about the same position as the wah wah

Also what is the f/w version that I should be on? I think I was at 3.27 here. I stopped with 4.0 cause I had the issue stated

3.27 should work fine. I haven't tried any of the newer with an AXI. It should be the same with newer versions as most changes on those only apply to multi rotor & helis

ok gave that a shot the 3.27 (i was on 4.01), 8pwm, and 0 timing, it did move the noise to the lower part of the throttle, so at least i wont be flying in it. more testing to come
