Scale Build Off 4- Balsa USA 1/6 Scale Nieuport 28

Well I'm getting started on the Nieuport. Not much has been posted about this kit so I will try and not mess things up too bad. I checked the plans out and noticed that the right wing half is about an 1/8 th of an inch shorter than the left. I had this issue with my Pup but it really did not make much of a difference. The wood appears to be excellent quality. Wish me luck

The Nieuport is a beautiful plane. This will be an interesting build.

It looks like your kit came with graphics and a dummy engine. That seems like a great deal.

Have you made any decisions about covering and paint scheme?

Good luck.

Thanks for the interest. I am going to try and match Eddie Rickenbackers mount. All of the extra stuff are items I have collected preparing to build the plane. The guns are Williams Brothers, the graphics are from Callie Graphics, and the Dummy Engine is from the H9 Camel. I bought several of those for my 1/6 th scale projects

Good choice on the paint scheme. Rickenbacher's is a classic. I look forward to the build.

I am just about to order my graphics from Callie. She has been great working with me. I priced what I wanted with some competitors, and the difference was amazing. I am finding that there is a reason folks are using her products.

Callie's service is excellent and they are very high quality. I always use her service because I am lazy and I hate masking

I've just ordered the kit through my LHS. Should arrive next week. I have built the BUSA 80" Eindecker III kit and found that it goes together pretty easy, but modifications for "scale" improvements can be a challenge.

I was this close to ordering the 1/4 scale Camel instead of this Nieuport but decided that it would be better to use a glow engine and radio system I have on the shelf than investing more $ in a gasoline or much larger glow and heavy duty electronics. I still might later on but this will be fun for the winter.

Thanks for the interest everyone. This is only my third kit so I am still kind of a neophyte . Got a little done today. I spent a lot of time working out how to power it and where to place the batteries. Based on the plans I think I can fit two 4 cell 2200 mah batteries in parallel in a box attached to the existing fire wall. I will access the box from below through a hatch cut into the cowl. I have a motor with a short can that should give me some extra space. The motor specs are:
Model: NTM Prop Drive Series 42-38 750kv
Kv: 750rpm/v
Max current: 55A
Max Power: 785W @ 15v (4S)
ESC: Eflite 60A esc w/ a separate 3amp ubec
This should be good for scale flight. Here are some shots of the wing taking shape

Making progress, thats always a good thing. Heck don't worry about how many kits you have built. I just got in the hobby 3 years ago been building and flying lots and just finished building a plane that I designed. Quite a rewarding feeling to see something fly that not only did you build but designed as well.

Thanks cbarnes for the comments. I started a few years ago learning on ARFs. Yes I said it, but I found I love building as much as flying. I got a little more done on the wing today. Did I say I am slow

Your allowed to build at what ever speed you want to build at. This is my scratch build. named it the ChubCub and I designed it to 3D. Flys pretty dag on good. I will say though build a profile and you learn to build fast. You can have a .40 profile framed up in a couple of nights.
