Japan's nuke meltdowns
The worst nuclear meltdown ever and I know nothing. Am I so isolated I missed the media news blitz on the end of the word stories they like to constantly come up with?
What's the shape of our nuke generators? Especially Ca. Again I know nothing and nobody I know seems to be concerned.
The triple melt down has to be many times higher then Chernobyl . I've never seen a map of the downwind area in Japan compared to Chernobyl.
Right now you can take a tourist tour though Chernobyl. I thought that might be fun but the wife passed out.
From the little I've read on Japan their Government is a total mess , worst then ours if that's possible. They can't make decisions and if they do it's a woops just like ours.
Our green people want to kill all the coal plants. That's one energy source that we have a lot of. Man, the bad stuff given off by coal is zero compared to the Japan emissions.
I'm not even sure what the numbers mean but the numbers I've read are not good.
When a reactor blows it spews a lot of Cesium . That stuff is hot and has very small particles. This sticks to tree leaves. Fall is here and the radioactive leaves are falling and collecting in piles. Can't burn them . Huge forest areas don't lend them self to raking. Not good.
This covers a very large area yet no news from China, Russia,N or S. Korea who have to be blasted with drift.
Maybe this means radiation is zip and who cares.
They want to raise the dose safety level from 1 millisievert to 100 or higher in Japan and say that's just fine. So who has been lying all these years?

The problem is different and in some ways more complicated than Chernobyl and in many areas the measured radiation is just as high.
The fact that the reactor cores are somewhat intact also raises new, ongoing and longterm hazards....

Lies lies and more lies
Its nuclear disaster of near biblical proportions
The total radiation released up to today equals about 5000 nuclear bomb detonations
Buy the time the nuclear plants stop emitting nuclear radiation the amounts of radioactive materials leaked will exceed 10000 nuclear bomb detonations
For the ENTIRE northern hemisphere this very bad news
Due to the fact the fires were not the type to bring nuclear reactive materials high into the sky the majority has fallen in Japan and regions nearby like Korea and China
However the small amounts that made it to the USA and Euroland and further are still huge doses that we really do not need and exceed Chernobyl by a huge factor
However world governments have opted to just change the safe levels of exposure to radiation as the sticky plaster solution
One molecule of radioactive plutonium makes thousands of molecules like dust it contacts with very radioactive .If you breath in this dust molecule your often deader than a hammer in a year .
There was tons of plutonium spent fuel rods from reactor no 3 that went several thousand feet up into the sky when the plant blew up
The probability is that even large cities like Tokyo could have to be abandoned as the levels of nuclear radiation become impossible to tolerate
Possibly 25% of japan could become uninhabitable for humans
Some experts even say 100% of Japan could have to be abandoned as unsuitable for people to live there
Bear in mind that the Japanese government told lies all through the disaster
Bear in mind the nuclear industry told lies all along from the first when they built the plants to how now they even claim there is no risk from the exploded plants
Bear in mind the Nuclear industry has many powerful investors friends in the owned and controlled main stream media that lie to the world that there is no risk from this accident to the peoples of the world
Main stream media and governments is LIES LIES LIES and worse often main stream media makes small stories like pop idols sex life more important than the USA cows milk is killing you

While I do think Treehog is barking at the moon (as usual) I also do believe the seriousness of the situation is officially being grossly understated. This story is far from over and there is no way it has a rosy ending.

Well at least I'm not the Long Ranger on this. Very confused. TreeHog seems to have a source for info no one else has. Hmmm. Its fun to try to scare people when your a teen and some never grow up.
I think some here point out thats it's so bad they don't want to talk about it. I just read a report that told me absolutely nothing except the writer wrote his meter read 150 and he was not happy to be there or on this assignment.
As a science experiment we will learn a whole lot on the effect of radiation on the public Maybe someone will say its was deliberate but I thought only Germany was up to this. It will take 50-100 years or more to find out what happens. Maybe Japan will now produce basketball players?
I still have no numbers on Seattle or Tokyo.
I can live with truth, it's the hidden stuff that worries me.

The truth - radiation scares people........and rightly so but it is a manageable risk and one worth taking to expand our energy supplies. (IMHO – Nuke is as green as it gets.)
However, that being said..............
deaths from radiation in 2011 = 0
deaths from organic cucumbers in 2011 = 16 (300+ ill)
deaths from listeria infected melons in 2011 = 16 (72+ ill)
You are safer hanging out at a nuke plant then eating fresh veggies…………….
If you really want to die from radiation exposure your best bet is to receive a medical radiography treatment, not to hang out at a nuclear power plant. Surprising is that many radiation deaths from radiography treatments are caused by software glitches.

TreeHog, you really need to do some serious fact checking before typing out out that dribble. I have worked in the nuclear industry and there isn't one true thing in what you have said.
And by the way, even after Japan there is far less radioactive material in the air than when the USSR and the USA were doing open air tests.

The amount of material released into the air from Chernobyl FAR exceeds Fukushima, and not by a narrow margin either. The reactor at Chernobyl-4 EXPLODED. As in BLEW APART INTO MANY PIECES. Chernobyl also had zero containment structure. Look around on the net, you can find some truly amazing pictures of fuel lava where it leaked into the basement of the reactor building, among others. I read some amazing accounts of people who were in the C-4 plant when it exploded.. can't remember where but they were really quite haunting.
As for nuclear safety, less people have died world wide from nuclear power and it's associated industries than ANY OTHER METHOD of power generation. Believe it or not, that includes wind and solar.
The reactors are Fukushima are old Gen-2 units and should have been decommissioned 20 years ago. Unfortunately in the present radiophobic political climate it is highly unpopular to spend money on new nuclear plants, forcing the older, less safe reactors to keep operating with extended licenses.
If you look at the 3 major commercial nuclear accidents and their causes, none were actually do to the "inherent safeness" of nuclear power generation:
TMI - Known problem with the PORV valve; manufacturer failed to inform customers (including TMI); Lack of monitoring equipment and staff training meant they did not recognize the situation as a LOC (loss-of-coolant) accident.
Chernobyl-4 - Operators were performing a colossally stupid experiment on the reactor that had failed numerous times in the past, with all of the automatic safety systems turned off (because they wouldn't let them perform the experiment), combined with certain operating characteristics of the RMBK-1000 that were unknown to the reactor operators.
Fukushima - The plant was hit by a natural disaster that was beyond design spec.
There were other indirect problems with Fukushima, such as the relationship between Tokyo Power and the Japanese Government, but issues such as these are not unique to the nuclear power industry.
Nuclear energy has to be respected. It is a very well understood science and is currently our most efficient form of power generation... but it's incredibly unforgiving when handled wrong.
