1/5 scale 80" Me 109G-6

The electric warbirds thread seems to be dominated by foamies(not that there is anything wrong with them ), so I've added my latest balsa project to the mix.

It's been built from a 1/5 scale Me 109G laser cut short kit designed by Derek Micko. It's is nearing completion so I thought I'd post a few pics of it.
I'm going to finish it in the colourful Swiss Neutrality scheme.

My son is very interested in the build as you can see in the photos.

Looks nice, I'd be interested in knowing the AUW RTF of a model of this size, with this type of construction.

Please keep us posted.

The all up weight should come in at about 4.4kg or 10lb in the old speak.

It is powered by a E-flite 60, turning a 16x8 apc on 6S. This setup is giving me just on 1000 Watts and drawing about 50A at full throttle.

Here are a couple of progress pics, I've still got a way to go with the painting at this stage.

Maiden Flight

The 109 was successfully maidened on Saturday. Now that I know it flies I can finish off the rest of the scale detailing.

A couple of pics and video are attached:

If you look closely you will see that I did retract the landing gear after the second takeoff(6:30 in the video)!
Unfortunatly in my pre maiden excitement I forgot to clear the memory card in my camera so the video stopped after 7 minutes. You missed the 109 doing roll and another great landing! This model would make a great first warbird as it handles so nicely.
