Control horns on top of aileron/flaps ?

G'day all, I'm nearly finished assembling an ARF Phoenix 2000 minus a motor, for slope fun and am wondering if putting the control horns on top of the flaps and ailerons has any negative effects ? My thinking being to protect the servos from having the control horns snagging on stuff during landings/arrivals

You can always use servo fairings to streamline the servo arms.
It's just a bit more difficult running the control rods topside from a servo on the underside. Otherwise, no big deal.

You will want to check where the hingeline is though. If the hinges are on the top of the aileron/flap and you put the horns on top, they will need to be longer then if they were on the bottom of the surface to get the same amount of throw.
Generally, the surface is controlled from the opposite side of the hinge for best geometry.
If the surfaces are center hinged, then it doesn't matter

no worries then, bury the servo, bring the control rod through the wing, pop it out the top to the control horns. Just make sure to miss any spars
I've added some pictures of my Mamba combat wing with the layout like you're proposing. Works great and all the delicate bits are buried.
