ODOM 99 was doing a miraculous job yesterday for a couple races.. must have been a combination of a lucky set of tuning adjustments and wind shifts .. but it actually beat several of the other 6 ODOMs and a couple Soling 50's till i hooked into Ron Cunningham's Santa Barbara as we were both trying to avoid a near collusion with other boats at a leward mark and we got stuck together for 30 minutes..

Oddly after trying in vain to get un-glued .. the boats decoupled 3 seconds before they drifted in far enough to be reached alongshore.. no scratches on #99, but i suspect Ron may have some white in his new dark Blue hull Bob DeBow had just painted for him.. Sorry Ron..

I spoke to Dale Gottdank a couple minutes ago.. It was great to hear his voice again.. and I'll be visiting him at Kaiser on Zion Ave soon.. Hope you can may time to do the same. .. he's in ICU in Room 3126C. Its best to call 1st and see how he's feeling before just popping in on him, the number to the Kaiser Switchboard operator is 619 528 5000. Ask if Nancy is there.. She'll put him on the phone if he's up to it and available. He's getting better but can't walk yet and I am just looking froward to sitting at the edge of the pond doing Practice Starts with him soon as he's out and up to it..

ya'll know I really enjoy sailing in the monthly Argonauts Points Races.. but because we'd recently had the ODOM /IOM Regatta I failed to look at the Club calendar... instead I assumed the Points Race would be later in the month..

Felt pretty dumb to pull up to the pond with an IOM (only) and find the IOM races has just completed and the 1st ODOM race was starting.. grrr
Well I learned my lesson tho..

Nope, but I'm confident that the next Newsletter will have it tho, and the date and location for the Annual XMAS party too.. I know that is coming up soon too..

Was that your son out there with you? are you still getting a lot out of the ODOM challenge? I hope the frustration of getting past the initial hump isn't getting to you..please don't give up. Regards, JimS

That was my Nephew, picked him up on the way. I got last once again,

We had a lot of fun sailing today in a mixed batch of Soling 50's and ODOMs mostly .. I really enjoyed it ..sadly i was in the only IOM but.. I need the stick time and practice tweaking that boat..

Only had one head-on collision .. it was with Phillipo's Soling 50 .. no harm done to either boat but we were both within inches of running aground and headed right into each other near the start.. I zigged and he zagged at least 3 times in the span of 2 seconds.. out of phase.. and we hit each other .. but the IOM has a bumper so it was no big deal..

Swung by the Pond at lunch today .. only one boat was on the water an ODOM Plus Porro boat. and it was light at 4 to 6 mph. wish i had packed mine but tomorrow should make up for it.. Hope to see you there. JimS


Update, fun ODOM filled day today.. I believe there were 8 boats in the water at one point.. all ODOMs .. all had fun..

Oddly there were only a couple ODOMs on the pond yesterday. The three Soling 50's and an IOM had the advantage in numbers. It was light but the weather was bright and sunny, and we had a nice time.. Tho we all missed the marks Dennis and Fillipo normally set out and spoil us with.. No one appreciates my timing down the starts either.. I go too slow and can't seem to sail and count backwards at the same time..

its too bad you won't be down here in SD Thursday.. it's supposed to gust to 25mph.. Sorry you missed ithe wind while here... that was a rare patch of calm..
