1000 Feet Up

Well I finally made my goal of achieving 1000ft above launch. Video is somewhat unremarkable other than that.

FPV Easy Glider FPV 1000 Feet Up! (09/13/09) (14 min 19 sec)

I did 1300 yesterday, the signal on my 900mhz gets a little static that high so I was afraid to push it any higher. Maybe if I drive to the desert where I know if I loose control it will be easily retrievable. I've been lucky the 2-3 times I've lost my FPV plane. So much scrub brush where I live and its easy to walk by your plane siting 4 feet away. I must say though, having an video transmitter makes the impossible, possible when finding a downed plane.

??

Most RTF planes can go beyond 1K feet...

You've probably been that high without FPV equipment and didn't realize it, I bet.

1000feet Easy Star is pretty tiny, a glider slightly less. I think your right though... We've been breaking the ama rules long before we realized what 1000feet in the air looked like. There is just something about FPV that sparks a desire to go further, higher, and damn the rules in all of us.

goobdog i like how you have your camera mounted over the CG one question though did you have to reinforce anything.. seems to me thatd it be easy for the wing to wiggle out...

great vid though..

Well ya, the plane can go over 1000 feet up, but until I've done it how do I know the video link or radio control will work at that range? Every time I push higher or further I get a lump in my throat. Losing the video link or control of the aircraft is a large financial and emotional loss. I don't undertake pushing my boundaries lightly.

1000 feet was just a new "level" for me if you will. Maybe now I will go for 2000

Anecdotaly, 1000 feet straight up is out of my comfort zone for a non-fpv flight. My eyes just aren't good enough to push it much farther than that.

I get very nervous. Especially if I hear a full size airplane around. Or someone walking their dogs near me while I have my goggles on

That's why 1000 feet was a big step for me...

Just had to cut a small pocket directly aft of the cockpit. I was a bit concerned about weakening that area but so far no problems. Check my blog for more pics...

Thats why I love the RTH functions of the OSD's, I have lost all fear of going out of range and love pushing it, here is a video of my persnal record.
