Got it working on the rx. On the tx I get:

The blue LED is coming on, the chip gets hot, but the volt reg doesn't. But when I plug the module into the transmitter, the volt reg and chip gets hot but there's no response on the LEDs.

UPDATE: I tried using a different programmer, which is telling me the chip signature is 0x000000. It seems that in spite of life shown, something critical is dead.

Anyone else tried flashing the tx with AVR?

Yep, before getting the FTDI I was using the option to upload using a AVR programmer.

I did another range test on ground.. stock antennas 3.5km inside car surrounded with buildings and still strong reliable signal..

Which firmware tested, please?

I used thUndeadMOD3.6.. flashed RX as TX and integrated it in my old walkera radio

Looks like I too have a bad setup, I have successfully uploaded both the stock openlrs latest version, and thUndeadMOD4 firmwares. Both attempts have gotten me no farther than 150m before it cuts out.

Looked over the soldering job on both Tx and Rx, and tested connections with ohm meter, everything seems ok.

Any ideas for further troubleshooting?

I've tested MOD4 and frequency hopping is strange.. MOD3.6 is better
but 150m is terrible
if you have oscilloscope try to measure output.. mine gives 20.7dBm (20dBm is in chip specification)
I have another pair of HK LRS... if I have time today I flash them and test.

Some have reported problems with the soldering work.
Ideal would be to have someone with a working kit and mix-match TX/RX to see which one is the culprit and help debugging.

A fellow pilot tried his kit last weekend with a 1.2Ghz kit and it actually interfered the other way around.
With the 1.2Ghz vTX enabled the range was greatly decreased to just a couple of meters, with it off he could go way way further out.
He was trying this in a car with FPV, the RX and the vTX were split apart like 25cm. Maybe in another platform it behaves differently.

Thanks for the advice on trying to test with the oscope Spejlo, however my only oscope is an antique and doesn't really have a scale haha. But if I were to test it would I leave the antenna on?

I suppose this is karma for not buying from flytron, hk is starting to get to me with their cheapo stuff.

Hi Spejlo , can you please explain how did you connect the Rx to the transmitter in order that the RX will serve as TX (from wiring point of view).
I guess you connected the +&- and signal to the appropriate pins in the walkera transmitter, but where did you connect it to the TX , channel 1?
can you also elaborate on the binding procedure and the thUndeadMOD3.6 flashing (did you used older version of arduino?)
