Any chance you weighed the components before assembly?

I'm trying to estimate how heavy my current project will come out, but can't find weights for a few pieces. Specifically the motor/gearbox/prop, and the linkages. I think I'll be using the aileron bellcrank instead of two servos, but haven't fully decided yet. It all depends on what gear I can find good deals on.

The airframe(2mm depron, carbon bracing similar to yours) is at 11g fully assembled and hinged.

I wanted it to be under 30g, but if yours is 23g then maybe I can hope for 25g!

Plan on 7g min for the Motor/Gearbox/Prop (the motor itself is 5g)
4g for the brick
3g for the Aileron servo/bellcrank, linkage
4g (if you use 2 servos)
5g for the battery (the lighter batteries have a tough time with the 8mm motor)
1g for the linkages

or 20g with 1 Aileron Servo

21g with 2 Aileron Servos

Based on those weights, I'll be coming in around 30g still.

23g without battery right? That's still a light airframe, Mine is a bit of a pig I think. I bet I could get away with 1mm foam for most of it.

We'll see how this one comes out first though.

Has anyone tried the biowire servos?

Looks like a really light alternative to a linear servo + bellcrank! Not sure it has the oomph though, or enough travel?

2g for the airframe, with wheels? That, or the weights above for components are way off, but they seem accurate to me?

Mine was 9g unassembled, 11g with carbon, glue and hinges(scotch tape).

The absolute lightest the parts shown in the picture are

3.4g for ailerons
3.8g For AR6400
1.6g for SU26 prop
1.3g for gearbox
4.9g for motor
3.6g for a 110 battery
0.4g for landing gear


= 19.0g with no airframe in that number. You are saying your hinged airframe with all of that visible CF weighs 4.0g.


Foam safe CA or not, I'd say your scale is tad off.

here is my design. yak sp55m. 17"ws, 3mm depron, p51 guts, 31gr weight minus battery. flies awesome, hovers but no punch out. more designs to come. i have some 1 and 2mm depron and some 3mm epp coming tommorow. i also have a hobby city micro yak54 with sukhoi guts in it. it flies well also.

How did you print these plans to get it this size? I have an ar6400 and wing servo from the UMSu-26 that I have lying around.
