Oculus #52 Build

After reading and watching the two build threads going on I decided to order an Oculus RES kit from MM Glider Tech. I received the kit last week and have started the build. The parts are of great quality and the laser cutting is excellent. The fuse is light but feels very strong. I have been slowly building a Smooth Genie Pro wood kit for going on two years I think it is now but because of the kit not really being a kit and the parts not lining up on the plans it has been hard to want to complete it. I think once the wing is finished the rest will go fairly well. So the Oculus has taking the building board over from the Smooth Genie Pro. The Oculus wing center section frames up very nice and quick. This is what a kit should be. The only thing so far is that the C5 ribs where missing so I cut some out of 1/4" balsa as to not hold the build up. Here are some pictures of the build so far.

Well boys. I'm afraid we might need to take donations for Merrill to assist with is affliction. Yup, poor guy sold me fuse #63 and #64. Then he sends out #52??

Please send your donations in care of " Merrill the numerically challenged Sailplane Dude". Poor Guy!

I have not had a chance to get a lot done but I have the shear webs glued in. I used Titebond for the balsa to balsa side and IC2000 for the balsa to the spar tube. The only clamps I had for the drying time for the Titebond did squash the shears some but not at any spot that would affect how there support the spar cap to the spar tube.

John,
I do believe that the cap strips hold the TE in place.

Yes it runs right over to help bond to the trailing edge. then you just give it a little sanding and you will have a small carbon bump where it comes over.

The shear webs are glued in on both sides and the lower wing mount blocks are glued in with 60 minute epoxy and drying. I know the instruction say to use 5 minute but I typically don't use any epoxy under 30 minutes.
