The biggest problem with Ray M's plans is that there are so few images and names together of his planes. There have been several images I have seen in mags where I am sure that it was a Ray M design but have no name to go on to seek it out. Example, he did a twin engined rubber powered flying boat looking model, reminiscent of the 1930's Shorts flying boats...sorta banana shaped fuselage....I have no idea of the models name....wouldn't mind the plans though...
Seriously toying with doing a Push-Up R/E/T electric for the 2010 build off....maybe a 15gram brushless on 2s LiPo......only loonies (just like me) will possibly vote for it...bet plenty would smile at it though (are they laughing with me or at me??) errrrr maybe don't answer that!
His designs nearly always make me smile.

Ray Malmström's 'Eagle Book of Spacecraft Models'

A little bit off topic, sorry, but I just came across this thread while hunting down info on Jetex motors...

I found Ray Malmström's book 'Eagle Book of Spacecraft Models' [1960] in my school library all the way back in 1977. I remember building some models from his plans - the Space Patrol control line model particularly. My attempts were a bit rough (ok they were rubbish), but I was happy and was on my way! Sadly, I couldn't get hold of any Jetex motors as even in 1977, they'd gone out of production - my local friendly model shop owner told me (who now runs Sam Models incidentally). I had to make do with a 0.76cc DC Merlin Diesel.

Anyway - after about 10 years of sporadic searching I finally managed to locate a really nice copy of Ray's 'Spacecraft Models' book and I've got big plans to build some models, perhaps having a go with some of the Rapier motors. Probably a terrible copyright infringement, but I could scan one or two plans if wanted. Happy to be moderated if this isn't allowed.

Plans in this book are:
  • Moon Rocket (glider)
  • Deep Space Rocket Vehicle (Jetex)
  • Martian Flying Saucer (Jetex)
  • Man in Space (Jetex)
  • Earth Satellite (Jetex, RTP)
  • Terradelta, (rubber, ground vehicle)
  • Helisaucer (~1cc, control line)
  • Space Patrol Craft (~1cc, control line)
  • Interplanetary Spaceliner (static)

cheers, Andrew.

Hello, No, I don't think its copyright infringement. It only is if there is a commercial intention. I would like to have all models except those for Jetex. Not being easily available, I think they are not worth. Write to me edubarca1946@gmail.com and we can exchange.
Thanks again!!!

Let me tell you folks that I can share with you the Piper Pawnee, the Goldwinga and other Malmström plans. If interested write to my email edubarca1946@gmail.com. Please note that your email server must have a large capacity attachments possibility. Hotmail is no good. Gmail better, speaking of public servers.

Ray Malmström's 'Eagle Book of Spacecraft Models'

For Edubarca and keeny e, I've scanned in five of the models - here are links to them:Note:
  • These scanned plans are quite large at around 20Mb each.
  • I did a test print onto A4 paper and the scaling matches the original, so you should be ok.
  • Most of the models have plans that span a double page, so you'll need to print and stick together with clear tape.
I'll try and scan a few more in later. Let me know how you get on!!

cheers, Andrew.
