Lady Bug Build Log

Hey there,

I started building a lady bug from some plans posted here a few days ago. I wanted a plane that was small enough to easily take in my Camaro to the field to fly, also I wanted something small and light to get better at flying with. I have a 60" big lazy bee that I've been neglecting for the last 10 years or so, but didn't want to put that back into service as a trainer (I've rebuilt it enough already).

Anyways here are some pics, I have the airframe covered and am just deciding on the power plant now. It comes in at 5 ounces with no electronics, I want to use 5g servos and a 10g receiver. Any input on a motor, esc and battery wold be greatly appreciated!

Jessica

Well I ordered an electric combo and when it gets here I'll post some pics and let you know how it goes, I'm just hoping I picked a good setup for this little plane. That big bee was very underpowered when I flew it. It had 12 1800mAh sub c nicads and a brushed astroflight cobalt 25 on it, I'm hoping to get some LiPos for it in the future, and maybe a brushless motor.

This thread has almost all of the clancy plans in it. Post #158 is the one with the Lady Bug. It builds super fast, it took me a night to cut out all my parts from the plans and two days to build and cover it.

78 elky, My standard Lazy Bee has the following set up:3530-14 motor ( 24.00 from Heads Up RC ) GWS EP8040 prop, 3s1800 20C battery, Power Up 32a ESC (22.00 from Heads Up RC )
It has 220w 20a and terrific performance. Weight is 36 oz.

The brushed system you have is somewhat antiquated, although in its day was the best.

Hey 78.. is the the standard 40" or 48" Lazy Bee in the background or is that the Big Bee?

I have a Baby Bee, Lady Bug and 48" Bee that I regularly fly and have a Big Bee that I am putting together now.

78elky, I am framing the wing up now but have my reservations about using balsa for the spars. I was considering 1/8x1/8 bass primarily because of the use of rubber bands to hold the wings down and am affraid the balsa spars may give way. What do you think?

Built seven of them...added a 1/8 sq.balsa stick @ either side of the center rib under the existing spars. FWIW. art

That's an awesome build well done. I've just printed out these plans, definitely going to build one of these.

I never had that wing break from rubber bands, I cartwheeled it in once and those center spars were fine it didn't even break the lamination! It did however rip the wing tip off and destroy the front quarter of the fuze
