Thanks guys... I will order one up. Will stick with 3S for now for weight and bigger prop. Plus I have the Thunder Power 65C 3S batts and don't want to buy any 4S packs! LOL

Get that Laser ordered! I have one with about 20 flights on it. I also had the Edge EXP and loved it. The Laser just feels to me like it's all around more refined.

4s doesn't have to be heavier than 3s. In fact there is a sound argument that for equal power the 4s will be lighter because amps will be lower so ESC can be smaller.

Anyway.... I'm sure your 3s set up will fly the Laser fine but it's a plane that comes into it's own in high energy manoeuvres (like the Doc's videos show) so I think you will be missing out if you fly only on 3s. After all the Laser was designed from the ground up for 4s.

Its all about efficiency Steve. The 5s 600kv 13x7 combos I have really are the ticket for the 48" airframes from EF.

I wonder if they can handle a 6s wind that spins the 13x7 to 9500rpm though. I could use a pair of my 1800 gensace for a 300g battery weight.

I changed my Setup from 3s to 4s on my EDGE. Like it more now. It is only 50g more weight, but i did Not recordnice it.
It is floaty as before.
The extra bunch of the 4s Setup give me a bettet feeling and the savety, i Know, i can get out of trouble.

I was always looking look on the weight, but it is Not worth on these airframes.

I've previously used a 6s 480kv motor spinning a 14x7 (or 15x7) on the 51" Hobbyking Slick, which is only slightly larger and about 3oz heavier than a 48" EXP. This worked really well and was both super powerful, efficient and cool running. So 6s is definitely do-able on this size of model. Two 3s 1500-1600mAh in series would make for a really light but mega powerful set up on a 480-500kv motor spinning a 14x7. You could use a lightweight 40-50A ESC yet still pump out around 1kW of power at WOT

I'm not sure the advantage over 4s (or 5s) would be significant but it would be good for bragging rights

One more question--I was using all HS65's on my 48" plane that died in a Death Slide yesterday, but the aileron servos were HB's. I have two sets of MG gears laying here and could change them out---do you think that is needed for ailerons?

If you're ever going to fly it fast, certainly. Since you already have the gears on hand, why risk flting without them?

true.... I will switch them out. I fly fast enough, I was attempting full throttle crankshafts with the 48 Edge last weekend.

On a sweet new plane like the Laser I would go MG all the way...

Sounds like you're not only an MG kind of guy, but I predict you'll go to 4s soon enough.

What kind of flight time would this give relative to the stock, 4s setup?

I believe he was geting around 9-10 minute flight times

9 -10 minutes? On 6s 1600 Mah Lipos? Really? Is that flying 3D? I get 5.5 to 6 minutes on 4s 2500 Mah....

same reason i get 7-9 mins (depending on prop type for my 13" props) on my 5s 2200 packs
