What progress Minty??????

Flying my T31 at the weekend reminded me of your build.
Any Progress Minty?
Nice day here and flat calm. The T31 actually handled nicely for a change.

HI Allan.....Progress been very slow....been busy working on float planes ,but must get back onto the T31.
The wings have causes some head aches, but think I now have it sorted.
What did you do to make yours handle nicely.

I can only conclude that the extra weight of the pilot up front has helped by moving the CG. That and getting the aileron differential and rudder mix right. The calm day probably meant it was not upset by turbulance either but I really feel this was proably not the reason. It just tracked better and was less inclined to drop a wing tip and turn by itself.
I was really surprised at how well it went so will try it on the hill this summer. T31s have a heap of character and it does look pretty cool in the air. I'm finally starting to warm to it.

I look forward to seeing your bigger one flying.

well that is all pretty positve stuff.
Hope mine behavies the same.
where do you now have the CG on yours?
How much differential have you on the ailerons?
My rudder is not mixed with the ailerons I just put in what I need by hand.
Yes vintage gliders do have their own character which makes them very appealing..... hence my build.
Your driver looks the part.
Report back after your slope flight....

cheers Graeme

Back onto the T31
Been working on the servo mounts as I need all up the front for CG and as it is an open cockpit trying to hide as much as possible.
Tow release fits under the seat, while the elevator is at the side and is near hidden with the left leg of the pilot.
This connects to the black carbon rod which is the elevator push rod.
So far all working out as planned.

Hi Mintie, looking great.but must say I would put a bigger servo on the tow release.(this comes from bad experiences with servo s not releasing if to small)

Yes please put a bigger servo there. You Will need nose weight so a big servo won't be a problem

OK guys I hear what you are saying....will now have to do some serious realinement as a fullsize servo will not fit under the seat.
I have room for a full size servo ,but it will have to be more rearward, closer to the CG now. thanks for the imput ....a bit easier to change now than later.

I suggest you check the release will let go at twice model weight Mintie. Use full servo tavel but trhe shortest arm you need to get the hook movement. Max mech advantage in other words. Big servo is the way to go.
For what it's worth......

+1 on the servo size. My 1/5th scale T31 got hung up behind the tow plane and I was using a standard servo. Only the line breaking saved the glider. The tug was big so it was always safe.
I am now looking at modifying my release. The one "I" favour seems to be "unfavorable by a lot of others . . . . . I'll attach a drawing - when I can find where I hid it. .

If you need more weight up front of CoG, put in a 'Well endowed' pilot like my one

Cheers

Ha ha . . .if only the lead required was that small.

Yep, I got one of releases too . . going to put it in a 'Celeste'. Now we'll see how old you really are if you know that glider. Hint; english mag review (no longer available) scalelish looking.

Keep it coming, want to see more . . .
