Both good suggestions again...I really appreciate the feedback.
Kahloq, I would prefer not to have to cut down props if I can help it, I dont know if I have the Skilllzzzz to get that right everytime, will probably go through a bunch of props trying that, but I will keep it in mind. Dangaras, I will have a look on their site. The smaller cans may make it easier to to fit them in the cowls, and I expect that at that size they would be more equivalent to a .46 size engine. 600Kv should give decent revs on a 13 sized 3-blader. I am a bit of an electric novice, so I am venturing into fairly new findings here. The biggest problem for me is being in Dubai and getting access to parts as easily as you guys in the UK and US. Thanks again. |

Kahloq, not finding anything on the HK site, will keep looking though. I am on holiday in the UK at the moment, but got the plane ordered before we left, hopefully it will get the package just after I get back. I had it shipped to my forwarder and get free shipping to their, and will get the forwarder bill when I get home. Hopefully it won't be too bad...*fingers crossed*..
Looking forward to building this crate, and will be looking to these forums for guidance. After getting the HK mossie, I just had to have this one. I also have an ESM typhoon on the way so I will be very busy building in the coming months. |

Ok, so my plane has finally arrived, and I was very disappointed by the state of it when it arrived. For a start, this is obviously an old model I know (seems to be disco'd by CMP) and this one looks like it had been lying in the raidentech warehouse for ages. Most of the bags (apart from outer panels) look to have been opened at some stage....but a stock take confirmed that everything is there. The linkage rods are mostly rusted, the inner box was trashed, and the outer looked like it had been kicked all the way to Dubai. The only real damage was to the underside of one nacelle..the glassing was cracked and some of the paint and glassing had chipped off..The flaps were lying in the bottom of the box...
I am not going to kick up a stink, because I will end up having to send everything back, and wait another age for them to sort out something that they could easily have avoided and chose not to. I am almost 100% convinced that the one outer wing panel is not from this plane...the paint is far off what the rest is.... Anyway, I have put a curse on the people there, and Karma will see it right to make amends....the rest of my effort will be pointed at getting her to look nice and fly RIGHT. Motors, speed controllers, pull-pull system and servos should be with me in a few days, until then, I have set about doing some mods which I will need to do to accomodate all the parts. Retracts will be ordered shortly, and I will get a machine shop to make me some nice H-frame gear. So far I have: Put dowels in the main wings to align them properly during gluing, as well as provide additional anti-twist strength. Will do the same with the tail feathers. Started preparing a system to have the ele's on a single servo attachment by making a similar setup that connects the inboard and outboard flaps. I will also try and have the elevator rod connect internally. The rudder will be on a pull-pull system, and I will slave the tail wheel off the rudder rather than the other way around Cut an access in the nose to place the 6S 5000mah battery, it will be a slide out set up and the connectors to the ESC's will be part of the wing and will pass through to the nose on assembly at the field. ESC's will not be mounted in the radiator openings, instead they will be mounted behind the firewall next to the little inlets under the cowling, they should get some cooling from there. The inboard leading edges will need to be buit up, that flat surface can NOT be good for separation and I am convinced that as they are, they affect the lift pattern airflow at the wing root. They really do need to have a decent airfoil there....I have convinced myself of this ![]() The inside of the nacelles needs some additional support as I will not be using the throttle/retract plate, and not using this will be making things a little flimsy in there. I will address this when the retracts arrive.. I must say, this is a BIG plane, and it looks VERY imposing in a mock up....I am sooo looking forward to seeing this in the air. I have a mate who is obsessed with putting sound modules in his elec planes and I am starting to believe he may be right that this one would do very well with the sound of twin merlins belting out.... The bombay area might just lend itself to this sort of mod....but I will address this once the machine is stable in flight. Appreciate all the input on this site, and the RCU forums.....Others who have pioneered will be responsible for what I hope to be a great plane. |
