Is that a volcano in the background of your field?

Yep, its dormant so does not help much with lift generation. It is Mt Putauaki, something to aim at during launch.

Yeah it's pretty hard during the winter, you get better times just by going straight through good air than circling...it takes too much energy to circle and you just end up sinking

Be gentle with it

I attended an estate sale recently. Picked up a Taboo DLG in good shape. This was an early design that has flaps and ailerons. Checked it out and it all works.

I don't need it but I brought it to a club meeting and offered it for $50 figuring someone would grab it up as a first DLG or something for sport or club DLG contests. No takers.

Maybe when the spring comes.

Not offering it for sale here as I can't be bothered with packing and shipping. Really wanted to keep it in the club.

Will show it at the field. Someone will take it.

was it dave thorburn who said "it's better to fly back and forth through lift than to circle next to it..." ?

I don't know who said it originally, but my instructor used to tell me that 35 years ago.

dave thorburn comments in the mid to late 70's, so your instructor likely "borrowed" it from dave's dissertations on thermal flying (and the original javelin style hand launch) in "model builder"

I spent most of the day programing a Taranis+ Tx to control a Stobel V2. I redid a previous setup and got all four channels covered. Now to figure out flight modes.

This was actually yesterday, but we had our first sunny day since I got my libelle. This was my third time flying it, previously only in completely dead air. Now there was some wind, so I was getting used to that, and got pretty confident. Obviosly, I ended up in a tree

30 minutes later thanks to a ladder and a 5m fishing pole the Libelle was down. But from now on we are looking at rain and snow, so no flying =(
