Slope Alien - First contact
Title says it all - i have been abducted
Actually this has happened quite a while ago ( last Summer) but only now i feel ok to talk about it.
So..., hmm.. where to start..?
Well sometime last Summer some Aliens caught me right in my basement and did some things to me i better not talk about..
Ahh well: they planted a thought into my tiny human brain.... - there you have it!
I was to mate space technologie (CAD) with human technologie (CNC) for them in order to invade and take over the dark side - just for the heck of it.
This must have changed my behavior quite some as imedeatly my buddy Christoph (Chris 67 here - look for his faboulus builds) noticed my changes and started to extract the weard things from my brain:
Be warned this is not for the faint of heart:

Somehow even Christoph was infected by all this and so he was to get a new mill to work the project.
In the meantime i was made to spy on my fellow humans and was made to source strange kind of materials: tooling board - never herard of it but somewhere, through various channels ( e-bay ) i got hold of it and happylie delivered the stuff to Christoph...
Who got straight to work:

Just by then the little green fellows somhow had let off Christoph but tightened their grip on me again:
Like a slave i had to paint and sand and polish and polish again...
and spend all of my sparetime and hollidays locked up at work...
But finally i had some beautifull plugs clogging up my tiny workshop:

By december i was made to produce the moulds...
Carbon moulds with poraver backing
would the ordeal ever end?

First Proto was finished yesturday - as per plan:
My birthday present
Unfortunately i was hit by a slight flue and thus maiden was posponed till today.
NO wind at all so i went to a nearby field and maidened off the bungee.
Absolutely no trimms at all, rolls axial, and COG seems spot on
Could not take pics/vid as my buddies usually spend their time at work during the week.
Nevertheless i got a huge reward for all the effort taken.
By thursday some wind is said to come up so hopefully i can do some testflying at some slope or other..

back from dinner i thought might have to give a little follow up:
When finishing my last build ( group effort) i was wondering what to come next.
Fact was i wanted to build a plane for me alone, to my very personal specs, no compromise...
What to build?
F3B - too big to expensive and with competitors having 20years more of
experience hardly worth the effort for a one man team.
F3J - not my thing and otherwise same as above.
DS Plane - Yes, absolutely - simply cant have enough of them
Heavy Sloper - dito
That sorted i decidet to build a relatively small DS ship.
Not only that will keep the cost down but mainly to the fact that lots of my places require longer hikes and sport adventurous landing zones to say the least.
For that i usually take my mini DS ship "Toppits" with me enjoing the fact that such small planes can be build Bullet Proof much more easy than my 2.25 m Hannibal coming in at 4 kg unballasted.
Still of course such small planes are somewhat limited..
A plane right in between Hannibal and Toppits was in order. Some plane for fun DS and heavy slopework.. not a record breaker but i was after fast acceleration and instant fun on the DarkSide.
Wings to tape on or 2 screws if desired ( i prefere tape-on) combined with a heavy build glass fuse to withstand those heavy arrivals.
Span aprox 1,7m so its easy to transport in car / backpack or even in a ski lift if desired.
Weight between 1.5kg and 2,5 kg for loadings of between 75 and aprox 125 g/dm2 ( no light planes intended - i have my LSD design for that)
And of course a fuse with those sleek lines just as my Toppits.
Some sketches later "Slope Alien" took shape- mainly to the great work of my friend Christoph.
DP kindly tailored some sections for my needs.
Milling was done by Christoph,
Rainer kindly let me use his spray booth,
lots of others joined with good suggestions and a helping hand when asked.
Thats what friends are for!!
A big THANK YOU to all of you.
Some Specs of this lightweight proto:
Span: 1,68 m
Area: 20,2 dm2
lenght: aprox 1,06m
Weight: 1500 gr.
Section: DP custom
Wings double carbon 200gr fuse 12 layers of glass

sorry for replying late..
Well unfortunately no DS for now, at the moment we are living in a wind vacuum here around Munich - Germany.
Well after initial testing i have sunk aprox 260 gr. of lead into the wing, and honestly it will stay there as the Alien just loves ballast - wish i could get in more.
Anyway as for today i only have about 4 hours on it , mostly in marginal conditions.
A short spell in good wind revealed that it flys well behaved and a Wizzard compact at partial ballast that was flying as well could not outrun it frontside.
On another occasion the little plane thermalled together with 2 F3J planes and one could not tell it was doing so at 90 gr/dm
I have experimented a little with CoG and differential and so on but every single change had been reversed to its original setting. It fits my style of flying just perfect.
Rolls are perfect axial, accelleration is superb and energy retention is quite good.
Butterfly will slow it down nicely and plane stays perfectly stabe while beeing deployed. Only plane i own as stable as the Alien is my Hannibal, but then it has much more heavy wings in relation...
Overall it is such a sweet flying plane- a big succes im my book.
I am extremely pleased with its outcome.
