f-14 tomcat

hi guys i am a new user here but i have been around here for a while and i have a question...im building the 6mm fly rc tomcat kit and the airframe is almost completed but mine will have retracts and a few other scale items such as external fuel tanks and wing missle pylons,so my overall weight is going to be 38 to 42 oz... ..i am using the wemotec microfans, and himax 2025-5300s...now heres my question..the thrust according to motocalc is 9 to 10 oz of thrust per fan on a 3spack at 17 amps...so thats just enough thrust to get her in the air..but if i was to run a 4s pack per fan instead of 3s thrust goes up to 16 oz and 26 amps...now the motors according to himaxs Jravis, the motor will take the 60600 rpms, and the 26 amps that the 4s will make ...so..all i reall need is an answer..yes the motor, fan combos will handle the 4s pack and live to fly another day, or no...batts will be the thunderpower 2100 mah 4s .per motor...or will the 3s be enough...thanks alot and what a wonderful site.. ..\stumpy

Hi Stump...

My foamy, profile, F-14s (19" to 41" WS, and sub 2oz to 10oz) fly with just a hand launch with 50% thrust to weight. They do not do loops from level flight, but are rolling fools, with just tailerons...

All but the 19" one, are one or more GWS "40" ducted fans, and are running on 3s...

On Thunderpower Gen2 lipos (the generation before the newer Prolites) my 2025-5300 pulled in the low to mid 20s on 3S. Say 23 amps at the start. So much so that sometimes the castle phoenix 25 would shut down on first startup because of the high voltage, but if I backed off a few clicks for the first few seconds it would settle. It'll probalby be about 25 amps on prolites for the first few seconds, maybe more, settling to over 20. 4S would be too much I think, unless you flew smaller cells and got a lot of voltage drop. Now that was one motor, keep in mind, not two. You'd need two packs with a twin of course, or one larger pack.
