After a lot of discussion, the SEFF Staff have settled on the dates for SEFF 2013. SEFF Week will run from April 22-28, 2013.

For those of you who may not have heard, our Flightline Boss, Ric Vaughn passed away recently. We are in the planning stages of deciding how best to honor our good friend during next year’s SEFF. In the meantime our most heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends. I know I am not alone when I say I will miss him very much.

Ric has been a fixture for SEFF . His work in getting the World Record attempt in 2008 recognized is an indication of his love and commitment to this event. I suggest the LMR competition in someway have his name attached. It seems only fitting.

In celebration of his commitment to this event, before the LMR event starts, a glider should be flown up...up.. till it is barely visible. The radio is then turned off while a minute of silence with heads bowed follows. Ric would appreciate that !!

Crap! Another year I might have to miss SEFF! Florida does their "FCAT" testing this week (and the one before) which is state-wide testing of school students, so if you have kids, you can't bring them and that may mean you can't go either, doh!...

...and yes, Ric should be part of a moment of silence and perhaps something to remember him in print. Perhaps a silouette on the SEFF t-shirt, maybe a stripe on the sleeve (as in major league sports) or some part of the logo (name on the side of the SEFF plane) for 2013?

Ric was a modest guy, he'd probably be embarrassed if the event name were changed, but certainly an event like LMR would be appropriate.

I like the idea of commemorating him in some way on the t-shirt.

It was sad hearing about Ric. I'm sure everyone will find a fitting way to pay tribute at SEFF 2013.

I hope I can attend but I'll have to see as it's right around the time of a work conference that I skipped last year to go.

Well it's somewhat required due to the training aspect involved. But we'll see. I'll have a new boss when this comes around so we'll see if they are nice about it.

I plan on making the trip again!
