Hobbyking 1.5m Versus DLG

I just came across this new DLG from Hobbyking.

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...lider_Kit.html

How does it compare to the Topsky models? They look pretty similar.

Cheers

I just bought a used Top Sky 1. The verses looks identical to the TS-1.

Good luck ordering and more importantly, receiving your merchandise. It is HK ya know.

Also remember you have to figure in the shipping price.

And you generally get what you pay for.

I figured HobbyKing would come out with a 1.5m dlg at some point. Sure enough, it looks like a topsky. The price isn't bad if the quality is there. It's HK, though, so you never know. They could have probably found someone better for the promotional video. I wonder if the day of the shoot was his first time throwing a DLG.

I'm surprised they didn't come by my usual field to film that, I've seen them film electrics there pretty much every Wednesday I go fly (when I can sneak out of the office...).

As a newb with only 15 or 20 throws under my belt....... He throws like I do!!!

I wonder how many times he had to walk down slope to retrieve the plane?

If it looks like a Topsky 1.0 clone then sounds like im better off sticking to the Topsky super 2.0 disser or non disser that I was planning on getting.

The specs look OK. A little heavy for my taste but well in the normal range. Airfoil choice is good as well.

I'm surprised they've priced it so high considering there are several good intro DLGs out there that are significantly cheaper. But then again, this is a full 3 channel ship.

Found the setup manual here: http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...X679149X10.pdf

Couldn't find the build manual. Hopefully they'll include it because HK stuff rarely come with manuals.

Couldn't tell how well it launches from the videos though because Scott's technique was really bad.

For a throw like that, they needed some hills to stand on.

Honestly though, I'm happy that they now offer a 1.5m plane. The price is great and they have a wide customer base, I'm sure it can help promote DLGs to people from other disciplines.

He hand launched it, but then sloped it. I wonder how it does hunting for thermals? And what it can do if it finds one?

So far it looks like a really nice light lift slope ship at least.

I'd bet money it's made by the Topsky guys... I'd say it should do okay as a starter plane. Definitely at the right price and quality (if indeed made by Topsky guys) should be good. Hope to see more of it!

Yeah. From the pictures on their site it looks exactly like a Topsky 1. Since HK OEM's lots of their stuff I wouldn't be surprised if it's manufactured by Topsoaring.
