Hangar 9 piper cub repair

Last week i crashed my hangar 9 piper cub. I was about to completely scrap the whole plane, but then i decided to rebuild it. As you can see from the pictures the whole nose of the plane is gone.. Engine stalled and the plane dived nose first on the ground from 20 feet high!

I just started, and here is a couple of pictures of the damage . I hope that i will be able to fix it !!!

The plane will be covered with solartex when done.

Hi LEO77
Repairing that mess is quite a project. A lot of the ARF planes fall apart that way. You will learn how to reinforce ARF's in the future, by rebuilding this one. I built a 71" WS J3Cub out of Coroplast corrugated plastic material about 10 years ago. I still have it and occasionally will fly it. I cart-wheeled it a few times, and landed it up-side-down on take-off a few times. Repairs were very minor.

Thanks VillaPilote,
Am trying to rebuild it, but to be honest am not even sure of the end result. With that much damage it is very hard to re-align all the pieces to where they were before, especially with the nose completely destroyed as in my case.

The reason I decided to rebuilt, it is because i really liked this Arf, Hangar 9 did a really good job on that one.

Thank you bsbauman,
I hope that the repair won't change the flying characteristics of the cub

Tonight I spent more time on the aesthetics, i used some balsa plates to hide some of the repair job to reinforce the nose of the plane

First time to try wood filling using wood glue and balsa sawdust.
I will let it dry overnight and tomorrow morning i will start sanding! Hope that this method would work!

When recovering the cub with solartex, any ideas of how i can make the black stripes on the side of the cub? I would like to avoid painting with black over the cub yellow solartex!

Any ideas? Can I get those from somewhere? I tried hangar 9, but I cannot get the black stripes of the fuselage!

Or maybe any ideas of how to make a template? Will Ultracote stick to Solartex in case I cut it from a template?

Thanx,

I typically get all my decal work from CallieGraphics, you will find her prices are well below what you might expect for her custom work.

She hooks it up and delivers a great product. She is my go-to for vinyl, air release decals.
