How do you guys capture the sky writing photos? Looks like something I used to do with film on a tripod and long exposure.

Yup - that's how you do it.

The hardest part is that I usually go to the field alone, so I have to work the plane and the camera. I set my camera to a 15 second timer delay, then try to get the plane in front of it before that time expires. This one is (if I remember correctly) a 20 second exposure, which captures the hand launch. I have the camera on a little tripod on the hood of my car, so I push the shutter button, walk into the field, and let 'er go.

I am wanting to light up a Value Hobby Sabre 35. It has translucent red covering. I would like to get the wings and fuse to light up possibly from the inside or have that appearance. I would love some help as this is my first night flier.

My first though would be to place some short LED strips on the wing ribs. I did something like that with my last Dollar Tree foam flying wing.

To help with orientation, you may want to do one side in one color, and the other side in another. Perhaps white and yellow?

You can run LEDs inside the fuselage in the same way.

People put hundreds of LEDs on their planes but I find around 50 to be plenty.

I like the wing lit from inside. Good job.

Have you thought of pulling a string of lights from each wing tip?

Yes. The flying wing lit from inside looks good.

Man, just caught up on this thread after being off RCG for quite a while. Last time I flew at night (or really at all) was at the NEAT far in 2012. I think it's time to get back into it.

Just started night flying, and it's a hoot! It sure tests my skills. Clearly I need to fly closer in, both day and night, and night will help me to become more comfortable with lower flying.

TH Large Light Kit (1 min 38 sec)

This is Twisted Hobbies' larger light kit, pricey but turnkey, works great. Weighs the plane down a bit, but worth it. Y-connector off my 3S 850mAh battery, and robs about 30 seconds of flight time. On a 39" TH Edge.
