I converted the 7009 double horse brushless, extend and enlarge rudder (little larger mini hk boat) 25A esc 5200BL motor makes it a controllable rocket!!! was a gem but did not have self righting had to save it often when it flipped.

I wont convert to bl yet but 2.4, self righting, better rudder, at this price cant beat it!!

2s 650 -900 lipo fun all day

This boat looks really nice! I'm very tempted to order one!

Is this possibly the best combination of affordable, fast, small size, but still "good"? Sort of the losi micro or UMX of the boat world?

I've had nothing but problems with this boat, but not ready to give up yet. 1st thing, battery pack they sent was defective, no problem, grabbed a couple 2s lipos and modified the battery location. Next was the plastic motor/shaft coupler, it completely stripped out and fell apart after about 10 minutes. Okay... fabricated a new one out of aluminum with a set screw on the motor shaft. Everything was great for about another 6 minutes.... stuck in a fresh battery pack, let it cool down and ran it again, now I'm only getting about 70% power, it is very noticeably slower. WTH? Was thinking if this motor goes, I may switch to a brushless motor/speed controller, and will need a receiver. Anyone have any luck yet going that route? What kind of radio do they ship with? Will it bind with any other receivers? Is there a higher quality brushed motor that may work as a direct replacement?

Yeah brushed motors are never the best IMHO but at this price i'd be tempted,i'm sure it would be easy enough to put in a brushless motor, though i can't say for sure as i don't have one (yet).

Well, the boat seems to be doing okay, except water leaking through the drive shaft. Once the brushed motor fries out, I'm certainly going to try to match up with a brushless motor. Only thing is then it will need an ESC, and a receiver. Cheap enough though on such a small setup. It has a nice waterproof plastic box up near the front of the boat. The wiring runs out of a couple holes and it get silicone sealant around it. They must use a waterproof servo, as it's been submerged many times without a problem.
