Charger Recomendations

I know there is an entire thread on batteries and chargers but want to ask here to see what you guys would use.

I am using 3 and 4 cell 3000 mAh batteries in series and parallel to make up a 12,000 mAh 16 cell pack.

I don't have a charging setup and look to get myself one for Christmas.

Any suggestions for this?

Thanks and happy holidays

Rick

FMA Powerlab 8

I use the Powerlab 8 and charge 4ea 6 cell batteries simultaneously at up to 10 amps each. That is 40 amps charge. To do that requires 24 volts in at around 50 amps. Running off 12v would limit the charge to 20 amps. It will do 8s but I am not configured that way. You would need to configure your packs to 8s and arrange your balance leads accordingly. When charging in parallel, the batteries must be at a similar charge condition at the start and obviously the same cell count.

I fly 12s with 4ea, 6 cell packs in series/parallel and charge all four real quick!

This one is also very good and is 12v/24v as well:
Hyperion EOS 0720i Super DUO3 7S Dual Port Charger

I too would suggest setting up as two 8s packs; ......and good luck sorting out the balance leads if you go with what you described in your first post

I'll offer what I'm using, which is at the opposite end of the price $pectrum. It's all from HobbyKing, so ... well ... you know - caveat emptor and all.

I use it to charge (4) 6S 2200 packs in parallel. I can't fault it - works exactly as specified!

But I'll repeat previous warnings from upthread: balance boards only work with the same cell counts in parallel.

I just saw this one while looking at the 400 watt charger at Hobby King.

Anyone use this one?

How about this 12 volt batteries

What if I get a couple 12 volt batteries and 12 volt chargers and use these for the power supply? This way I can take it to the field and get a couple chargers that are not tied to the 110 volt circuit,

Hey Tom, I am also looking at the Powerlab 8 and use mostly 6cell batteries. How are you able to pull 40 amps? What size power supply are you running and are you using a single wall plug? Wouldn't a single wall plug be limited to 20-25 amp?

Thanks,

Dennis

wall plugs in the US are generally 15 amps, some are 20. Of course the is 120 volts. 1,800 or so watts, more than 20 amps when converted to 12 volts!
