Did you have thrust tubes in both? if not perhaps the exit nozzle area is larger on the Freewing one? I had a kit for a Freewing version but sold it, I though the Starmax one was cleaner looking, the Freewing one has real thick trailing edges if I recall that is pure drag.

That is probably the difference. On these models thrust tubes can add 5-8 mph pretty easily. You want to shoot for 51.4mm.
