Peter Rake RAF FE8..."Super Size Me"

Here we go again.
Plans in hand. I'll enlarge them to 1/6 scale (about 63" WS).
The "pod" is a perfect subject for vacuum forming, a whirling rotary engine, and one of vintage1's big ol' props should be fun.
I ordered a Windsock Datafile tonight. I've scoured the web for info, particularly photos, but can't find a lot. Anyone have a source?

Images uploaded. continue on page 42.

I have a number of FE8 images I pulled from the web and pasted into a Word document. What is the best way to cut and paste them into a reply?

Great subject Hammer but I'll start getting paranoid about you super-sizing little models I've built This will look great as a bigger model - looking forward to it.
BTW - I found very little on the web - probably the same as Jeff has offered.

You've no doubt studied this reproduction (love the face up front) http://www.colepalen.com/AircraftAlbums-FE8.html

Here's a shot with 3-views

I think this is one the Germans captured

Here's a whole rogue's gallery of captured aircraft (pesky Germans!)

Needless to say, I'm subscribed and looking forward to this build!

The Legendary Gary Sunderland designed one of these at 72". I was chatting to him about it only the other day.

Have you tried Arizona Models reference pages?

Cheers,

Hugh

Before you do too much drawing you might want to ask Pete for the design. A 1/6 scale FE8 is one we discussed when I chose the 1/6 YMF (an SRE was the other choice). He might do the work for you

Nice choice hammerd. That replica FE at Owls Head was built by my father, Bob Sebring at Novato, Ca. for Jack Gardner. It took a little over 2.5 years & I had the pleasure of seeing it fly both from the ground & air in Aug 1980 just before Jack flew it all the way accross the USA to the museum in Maine.
Your attention to details & outstanding workmanship will trully do the FE justice!

Kind regards,
Dale Sebring

Hooray! I was in a bit of withdrawal after the Be12a!

I've always been interested in the FE8 and DH2, in all of their endless rigging and draggy glory!

hoffboy - Love that pic of the one with the skull on the front, that is awesome!

There has to be an easier way to post photo's rather than creating URL's and individual files for each photo. How do you guys create thumbnail images for posting?

Smithsonian FE8

The following is a series of different photo's of the FE8 at the Smithsonian. This is the reproduction FE8 that was donated to the museum from the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome. It was built in 1973 by Cole Palen and flew with an original 80 HP Le Rhone. The original plane appears to have flown with two parallel flying wires between the wing struts. This reproduction appears to have two cables sleeved together.
