Long answer see my other posts in this thread for a more complete description of my setup.
Or go through the other videos on my YouTube channel its a bit shorter.

Basically I have an Arduino base station receiving the Vario/Voltage over a 433 RF link, the base station is doing the Biping and Voice Altitude/Voltage announcements locally, I'm just hooking up the 8266 to the serial port and feeding it the data every second.

Do all these components look like good ones for the vario (just the vario part, I will output audio to my video tx)
arduino:

pressure sensor:
http://www.mouser.com/ds/2/261/MS5611-01BA03-527786.pdf
Does this work or should I find one with pins broken out. Not sure if that exists on mouser...

3.3 uF cap:

33 uF cap:
http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/...XcgSoJojvPw%3d

Only issue is that the arduino is $30, I was hoping to spend around $30 total.

Dx.com also has the stuff, much cheaper. The bmp sensor is $7, while the ms5611 with pins broken out if $15. Arduino is $7

I will be buying my own radio to communicate with paragliders, maybe I could get it to transmit the vario tones so they can listen in on my lift

Sparkfun has the Arduino Pro Minis for $10 while existing stock exists. That's what I used and it works fine.

Ah. The pro mini are cheaper than arduino nano V3 that my DIY headtracker uses.

Is there any disadvantage other than no usb port (have to use FTDI)?

I am buying my Pro Mini boards at EBay. Last two years, I bought more than 10 for less than 3 dollars each. Not experienced any problem yet. Only problem can be that it takes ~10 days to ship it to Netherlands.

This was my last source a couple of months ago for $2,60 (a 3.3v, 8MHz version):

When vario tone is in constant beep I receive some crunch inbetween, when going up I receive beep beep crunch beep etc.. at first I realized I don't have 33 uF cap on the plane side, then I added it and the crunching is also there. I have found out that EarthMagnet had similar issues. Does anyone have some advice on what to look for?

Anyone tried this module? HC-12 SI4463. You can find it on aliexpress.

Yes.

Compared to the Si4432 (as in RFM22B etc) I found it less sensitive and required more complex code to drive it.

Newbie question

Hi all, was wondering if it is possible to use the freetronics baro module in this project, and if so what changes need to be done to the sketch, as I am completely new to writing sketches.

Another newbie question,

I have Frsky variometers for my Taranis. I need two extra variometers for my new projects. What is the wisdom, should I buy the frskys again or go for this one?
- How do these variometers perform comparing to Frsky variometers (they are ok but I like to find better ones)?
- Can I attach a TEK tube?
- Can I buy these somewhere?

Working System

OK Flew the Android bit for the first time today, very happy with it.

Due to camera issues, Sun, Focus, reflection etc I don't have the best video for you, but hopefully you get the idea. Lots of ideas for tuning the Android App now.
First thing will be to record the flight to file.

What was interesting was just how much the battery voltage collapses when its under load. Main thing for me is to know when I'm down near 3.8V without load on a long flight. There has been occasions when I've been in the air for more than 2 Hrs with no idea of the state of my battery.

MOV00721 (2 min 38 sec)

Enjoy.

.... Simon
