Jepe is a good choice

Hi

In our club we have very good experience with the Jepe mirage 2000. There are about 4 to 5 around.

- High speed: 253 km/h (157mp) logged by GPS
- Very good handling and maneuverability
- High alpha and low speed characteristics are just fun

Here is a build thread
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1197638

We do our mirages without retract.
- Less weight
- Better stability
- Easy bungee launch

Alternatively the F22 is said to be a little faster. I can tell you a soon as I finished mine. Here's the build log.

there is a cool mirage200 video, too

Yep the Jepe fast foam ones are quick as well (forgot about them in my 1st post). It's good because the cheapest of all the airframes (well that I can find at least) is the Mirage. Mine will probably be lucky to hit 100mph with only 1600watts but that's fast enough for me right now.

I'm building the Mirage right now. Mine isn't going to be a speed demon, but who knows. As far as my fastest FlyFly plane, well, its my Hawker Hunter. It does 125mph on the straight. No dive required.

Jon

Here is a link to my build thread on it and a link to my flights. Hope you like.

I bought myself now as well the Mirage from Jepe the Fast Foam version.

I am installing an ARC 3665 Setup with 3.6kg Thrust on 6S which will draw around 90-95 amps, so I think a good 6000mah Battery will be need to get a good 4-5 minutes mixed throttle flight.

I was thinking of getting Retracts as well, but seeing that planes explode like in the air, I am thinking twice about it.

It is going to be very interesting....

hows the mig-29? u think it would be fast with 2 90mms. so the fast foam jets are modified fly fly jets?

People build the Jepe Fast Foam Mirages and glassed them, some without some with retracts...

During flight the wings kinda "exploded" due to the high speed.

Reason for this is that the servos were too far away placed and not in the position which jepe recommends..also maybe the elevons were not glassed with epoxy for high speed setups.

I spoke with him today and he said if you do it as told from the instructions, the mirage even with 4.5kg thrust and 10s will hold up.

I still need the length of the flyfly original struts that come with the mirage..the measurements can nowhere be found !

Could anyone tell me the length of these struts please ??

I will get the new RC Lander full metal retracts but I need to know the approximate length.

Yes, they are based on the FlyFly kits.
- Modified inlet ductings and smooth insides (for you to construct of course)
- Relocated servo positioning to prevent flutter
- Better and stronger linkages
- Different center of gravity (FlyFly is always tail heavy)
- Glassed surface

The work you put in the foamy makes the difference between a flying FlyFly foam jet an a quite powerful and well handling Jepe fast foam jet.

You should also add in a carbon fiber spar of some type. As I recall from the video, it was the wing which separated. These are only foam jets and once you start getting into 10S lipos and some of those fast speeds, the wings/fuselog need a bit more structural integrity.

I do have some carbon fiber spar at my disposal and may reinforce the wings around the retracts a little.

My main concern is the installation of the retracts..especially the nose retracts..I guess there needs to be quite a bit of reinforcements on that side as well.

The whole Mirage will be glassed only outside with glass tissue and pu finish. The ailerons will get epoxy glassed since a powerful fan will be build in.
