I just received my Sky Surfer. I am putting it together today. I noticed I have two #1 wires for ailerons. In the Topfire 6 channel receiver, It has 1-6 and the last one is a little arrow. Where do I plug the two #1 aileron plugs?

Thanks all

I posted this somewhere else then thought this was a better place to ask this question. I am new to RC airplanes, can you tell? ;-)

Nevermind, I found the "Y"

Maiden

Maidened the SkyS today.
Removed 6 large washers.
Put on APC 6x4 prop with adapter.
Used A 2200mah battery.
Need to reduce the throw on the elevator.
Need to increase the throws on the ailerons.
CG needs some work.
I'm sure I'll have a better flight in the morning.

Hi Jim,

What kind of battery is that? Is this with the stock brushless setup? I'd like to order the same battery. If you have any links to one that would be great.

Well today I had the oportunity to maiden my SkyS. The wind was about a steady 12mph in the morning, but my SkyS handled it without a problem. on the first flight, it felt just a bit tail heavy, so I decided to bring it in to move the battery, I cut the throttle but she didn't want to come down!!! I had to circle the field 3 times before It was low enough to land!!! my initial reactions about the sky surfer is this thing can float!!! I don't really care for the stock prop as I had to use better than 1/2 throttle and usually 3/4 throttle to really fly it around. I initialy programed in low rates, but found it didn't respond all that quick so I switched over to high rates and was imeadiately comfortable. I moved the battery forward a bit and launched it agian. this time it felt alot better. The SkyS was flying great, so this gave me a chance to dial in the gyros, I have them close, but not perfect yet. it seams that as I increase the gain, it changes the servo center point, so I kept going back and forth between adding gain, and then retrimming. The roll gyro dialed in easily but the pitch gyro didn't want to cooperate, as I added gain, it would move the elevator up and I would retrim the elevator down, but ran out of trim before I found the limit of gyro gain, so this will require another day at the field to get it dialed in. it was pretty close so the last flight I just flew the SkyS and ran a full pack. I honestly have nothing but good things to say about this plane!! It flys great and it handles very well. My universal motor mount mod worked extremely well!! The SkyS feels very light in the air. did I say this thing can float?? Get it up high, cut the throttle and just sit back and enjoy the sight of it as it surfs (literallly) across the sky . I can't wait for a warm summer day, I bet this plane will respond to even slight thermals. I couldn't be any happier with this plane

SkySurfer vs. Clouds Fly

ajbaker, can you briefly compare the Clouds Fly and SkyS with respect to:
1. Acro ability.
2. Wind handling ability.
3. Airframe quality.
4. Brushless motor quality.

My Clouds Fly has between 80 and 100 flights and has aquired a noticeable "patina". I am considering CF #2 or maybe the SkyS ARF with brushless option. I assume the $10 brushless SS option is worthwhile.
Thanks.

I did not measure the amp draw but I think AJ put another brand 6x4 on his.
Take a look back through the thread. I think it measured 11.x amps.

Yes, it is the stock brushless motor. I have both of these batteries.

Jim, thank you sir for the links. These batteries do not come with a Dean's Type connector for the stock ESC, therefore you have some kind of adapter on them?

I would cut them off and solder on a set of deans, or an adapter would be easy to make.

My Zippys came with Dean's. I got them before they switched over to XT60 connectors. I have made a bunch of adapters for all kinds of interfaces. Antennahead's suggestions are part of what we all have to do in this hobby.

Thanks.
To be brief, here is my experiences with both of those planes. Remember, all of this is IMO. Each persons experience could different.
1. Aerobatic ability is about a toss up. CF rolls nicer. SkyS is better at inside and outside loops. 4-point rolls are the same on both.
2. The SkyS handles the wind much better.
3. Airframe quality is superior on the CF-It is more crash resistant.
4. Motor-personal opinion-the SkyS is slightly better (magnets don't come loose). Also, the SkyS has more power.
The $10 for the brushless is money well spent IMO.
I am hoping that someone else with a CF will jump in here and share their experience. AFAIC, there are as many "right" answers to the above as there are people flying them.
