Formosa motor mounting - 300 vs 400
I have a Himax 2025-5300 coming for my Formosa. I bought a combo unit from e-Flightline since it seems like such a good deal... basically the motor, GWS-400 gearbox, their hardened Cobri shaft, prop adapater, CC Phoenix 25, and all the necessary connectors.
I currently have the stock 350c (and hence a 300-series gearbox). I have the wood mounting stick in the top fuselage mounting hole, so the motor "hangs" off the stick.
The manual says to put the stick in the bottom hole if running the EPS-400, which means the motor "sits" on the stick.
I assume that this is to properly line up the prop shaft with the cowling, but having not seen a 400 gearbox close-up I'm just guessing.
Could anybody who has a similar setup comment on how they have their 400 gearbox mounting in their Formosa? I really hope I don't have to move that stick, 'cuz I had to epoxy it like crazy to fix the mount after a "mishap" dislodged it. Thanks!

My eps 400 slid right on in place of the 350. Everything lined right up, no problem.
The biggest problem with the swap was compensating for the extra nose weight. I had to slide my 8 cell 950 kan pack WAY back.

The are are two types of GWS Speed 400 motors. The EPS-400 Motor/Gearbox and the EDP-400 Direct Drive Motor.
The EPS motor/gearbox goes on the top position and the EDP direct drive goes on the battom position.
