Question
Servos that don't center

I just finished a Le Fish build, and it turns out one of the wing servos doesn't center properly. When full aileron is commanded and released, the servo goes past neutral, and a little to the other side. If you jiggle the stick, it makes its way to zero, but not immediately.

Servos are HS-85mg. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Is there anything Hitec can do to fix this? Or do I just chuck it and buy a new servo? The guy at customer service didn't seem too helpful.

Thanks for any help.

-David

The first and obvious question . Does the surface move perfectly freely when it's not attached to the servo ?

Yes.

Plus, the one that is bad is also very noisy.

might have some metal shavings in the gears or some dirt, if you bought it new, I would return it if it's worth the effort or open it up and see if there is some contaminates in the gears or on the PC board, it's possible that it was a used damaged servo that got sent back and repackaged.

Absolute , it's a write off . Cut the wire off right at the case so you're not tempted to reuse it . Save the wire , flush the servo .
I use Hitec servos almost exclusively , mainly 225's and a few 85's , all MG's never had a problem . I only run them at 4.8v.

Ship it back to Poway (Hitec). These guys are super good and will either replace it or fix it.

Agreed. I'm usually too lazy to send stuff in, but Hitec has a reputation for replacing bad servos
(even ones abused severely by the pilot) at little to no cost.

I have had a few Hitec servos develop bad boards recently. I will send them in soon. The servos sounded slower than normal when new and then eventually the boards smoked. The gears and cases were fine.

I've had servos get dirt and small pebbles in them on the circuit board end through the wire opening, the dirt and pebbles contained iron and caused short circuits, cleaned the servos and sealed with silicone, they worked fine after that.

I'll cut them out and send them in. They are brand new, but they're HS-82MGs, not 85s as I originally reported. Haven't THE 82 s had centering problems in the past? Guess it's better to spend the little extra.

I've had that happen on HS-82's before, plus there was an issue of the wires pinching and breaking at the case opening, no rubber grommet, send them back to Hitec and they should fix the problem, I made a switch to MKS servos, DS6100's are very strong and always center, they cost about $33.00 ea but well worth the added cost.
